what does it take to be a charge nurse?
is it hard? is it easy? how do you become one?
it is a challenge aside from being a nurse, you start to step into the leadership role more and understand more about what managements wants and why the patient is still there and if they can be discharged.
you do step aside from bedside nursing and your mindset changes into how to maintain and function your staff and unit whenever things occur and how you can solve or be of an extra assistance.
I became a charge nurse within a year into nurse by starting off as a new grade, I learned more, because I looked over all the floor and different conditions. good knowledge base to have. always take the oppurtunity when it arises. overall it is a good way to gain experience if you are into leadership.

Certainly having the role as charge nurse gives you more opportunity to gain experience aside from the challenges of making the nurse assignment

I became charge nurse after 2 years post graduation, and I passed the interview How ever now after 1.5 year of being on position I started to question my own competency for the position and I keep finding everything wrong with my practice and beat myself over it And I really struggle to go past that point and develop my qualities needed to improve Any ideas how to get over that and start improving as I want to progress my personality? I find it difficult to make best correctly decisions on timely manners, and I want to develop my communication skills to my supervisor on professional levels as Iam very shy and submissive, and I’m very slow on critical thinking compared to my seniors who still practice on bed side

No body is perfect, we all have flaws but we learn to cover it up with our experience and set of knowledge. Stand you ground, be confident in yourself, only you know your strength and weakness, people can tell you your mistakes and you learn from them. Nobody is perfect and it is a team environment where we learn from each other. Do not compare yourself because you will always doubt, believe in yourself and you will accomplish what you want to do.
