The moose rut can get crazy. This huge bull dethroned the dominate bull in the area the night prior and he was making sure everyone knew who was now in charge. Did I say charge? Oh, there was some of that too. Come and check out the craziness.

@@RaisedinAlaska What an amazing opportunity to witness this in the wikd. I've never seen this so up vl8se abd personal before. What a unique introduction to your channel !!!! So hi there , from a Nan in Aussie, I follow a whole host of on and off grid Alaskan homesteaders/ cabin dwellers. Question about the moose, as I was born & raised one of 7 siblings of dairy farmers in New Zealand I'm used to herd animals. Does one bull service a whole herd of cows or just one, of a few ? And does the bull stay with the herd year round? Were you quite close to film all that or do you just have a high quality zoom in camera?? I'm really impressed with my first video watch of your channel.
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska 7 ай бұрын
@@heatherclayton-callaghan4270 Great questions: Moose don’t herd up the most of the year. In the spring in through the summer to is common to find cows with their calves. The bulls, more often than not, are or alone. In late summer, the bulls may form small bachelor groups, but the cows are generally still alone or with their calves. Late summer and early fall the bulls will shed their velvet and begin to spar and establish a hierarchy of dominance. As the breeding season nears, the cows will gather up, in traditional breeding grounds, and bulls will hang out with the cows. The dominant bull will breed as many cows as he’s able or until another bull dethrone him. After the breeding season is done, it’s not uncommon for bulls to form back into bachelor. Cows are generally more on their own, unless there’s great feed in the area.
