One thing that always gets me about some of these indie RPGs is like, why did you bother making it 3D and not 2D? It looks terrible. If you didn't have the resources necessary to make a good looking 3D RPG than you should have just made a 2D RPG. It's turn-based after all so it's not like doing 2D instead of 3D would really change the gameplay too heavily. It's bizarre that some of these developers who make an indie RPG put in the extra time and resources to make a crappy looking 3D RPG when they could have at least made a moderately good looking 2D RPG instead. It's not like there isn't a market for retro RPGs.

That pokemon bootleg is actually a pretty good showcase of how important sound design is. Older pokemon games didn't do much more than that in terms of animation, but they felt so much more alive because of the sound effects
