Same thing will happen to Charith like Vanindu. Captaincy is an extra crown Well performing batsman or baller lost their commitment because of this type of extra responsibilities. Asalanka & Vanindu both having ample time for take Captaincy. According to my knowledge still they want well recognize experience players baking for mature. For an example Murali was world class player those days but not suitable for captaincy because it's an extra crown. In Sri Lankan lots of most seniors are there who can handle such positions still. Examples Anjalo, Chandimal. They have leadership qualities, handle any situation during a game, tactics & experience. Those things can learn from above mentioned super seniors another few years at least. Before retirement of Angi, Chandi it's better to get their maximum to the country national cricket team.

I have been an avid cricket fan (of world cricket, not just Sri Lankan cricket) since 1991. Appointing Kusal Mendis and Wanidu Hasaranga as captains are two of the worst decisions by any selection committee that I have seen for a long time. I would like to think that they were under some external pressure when making these decisions, although there is no way of knowing that. Having said that this selection committee has got most other decisions right compared with the idiots in the previous selection committee. They seem to be working according to a realistic plan. In Wanidu I see the strengths and the weaknesses similar to that of Shane Warne. He also has the potential to become the equivalent of Shane Warne (or perhaps more as a genuine all-rounder) in the white ball format. Whether he understands his potential and wants to achieve greatness is a different matter. But his temperament and discipline will remain to be volatile making him unsuitable to be a captain even in the future. This aspect is also similar to Shane Warne. The Australian cricket board understood the potential of Warne, and sometimes let him off the hook whenever he strayed (regarding discipline), but they did not make the mistake of appointing Warne as the captain, even though he was good at reading the game. Sadly, our selection committees are not that wise. Cricket fans should get over the fantasy that talented cricketers should also be pious and docile individuals ("upasakayo") with no character flaws and let Wanidu be who he is inside the boundary line. If he breaks any rules on or off the field, punish him according to the code of conduct and move on. Kusal Mendis, despite his experience, does not have the ability to read the game and situations well. So even he is not captain material and will never be. However, he is the most talented batsman Sri Lanka has had after Aravinda. As you have suggested, the guy should be given a short break and some time to regain his form and confidence. Regarding the role of vice-captain, I do not think we should be in a hurry to put another younger player for the role. All our younger players still need more time and experience before that. On the other hand, what Charith Asalanka could benefit immensely from, is to have an experienced player as the vice caption; someone who can work with him and be a sounding board and a partner when deciding things both on and off the field. It has to be someone with humility and experience. I think Dinesh Chandimal should be able to fill this role for the T20 format until the next T20 world cup in two years. After that, the selectors can select a younger player as the vice captain and get Charith to groom him.
