@@user-of6ks1pw2w yeah I get the impression you weren't there. The Charlatans were in the UK charts when Liam Gallagher was still just getting into fights and being unemployed. The Charlatans were in the UK top ten four full years before Liam Gallagher ever sang a note in a band, nevermind a studio. So yeah. edit: but in fairness, Gallagher is actually a better singer, imo - he's probably the best singer of his generation. And really, that's no attempt to slight Tim Burgess, who I've always thought great.

When there's a song of the quality of "Just when..." and you get "Roll with it" & "Cuntry house" getting all the media generated attention it just goes to show that the whole britpop thing was rubbish in comparison, and remains so. I stopped buying the NME when Liam and Damon were on the cover that week. Bag o' shite the pair of them, apart from Modern life is rubbish and Gorillaz first 3 LP's that is. Oasis (inc Noel and Liam's solo efforts) have still yet to amaze me. Call me cynical if you want but they do nothing for me music wise, however they're good for a quote and amusing interviews.

The Charlies are the real deal , there albums in the Britpop era were superb , blur were Chaz n Dave with country house it’s embarrassing & Roll with it was terrible.
