Ok, guys so I've got a banger for you in this video. We are viewing and reviewing the fight between Dmitry Bivol from Russia and Samuel Clarkson from the USA.
This was a 12-round championship fight where Bivol's WBA interim World Light Heavyweight title was up for grabs and this was Clarkson's first shot at an official major World title. The fight was scheduled for MGM National Harbor in Maryland, USA.
What can I say about Bivol... powerful, likes to throw punishing combinations and his aggressive work is very much calculated and precise. So he doesn't waste punches and seems to approach things methodically.
The way he throws the right hand after he sets it up textbook style with the lead left is extremely impressive. He hurt Clarkson with that punch in all three knockdowns.
Bivol is an experienced guy so he doesn't need to be told to work the body, he frequently mixes up his attacks between the head and the body. Also, another thing that is great to watch about Bivol is the range he maintains away from his opponents as he strikes them. So he rarely smothers his work and is usually able to sustain the attack or move back to set up a counterattack.
Now as we move forward to Bivol's fight against Beterbiev on Saturday, June 1st of this year, 2024 of course (for any of you guys watching this in the future) I think it's good to point out that these two fighters both products of the Russian Boxing school system have very similar technique but totally different styles.
Bivol is more of a fighter that relies on fast powerful punches and Beterbiev is more of a forceful puncher so he relies on his strength.
You can see Bivol using the pendulum regularly and often using his feet as his go-to for defence. When we look at Beterbiev his feet are relatively planted to the floor and usually has to rely on his hands for defence.
Both fighters mix up their punches across the head and body and both fighters do not often move their heads off the target line. Out of the two, I would say that Beterbiev seems to take more punches and has a slower reaction time than Bivol.
Now if look at their records Bivol has finished his last 9 fights by points decision, whereas Beterbiev has stopped all of his opponents.
Bivol as seen within this fight does a lot of good work with his lead hand to preserve distance and he could surprise Beterbiev who likes to come forward, sometimes head on into punches.
Beterbiev of course is the walking definition of aggression. He will certainly be looking to close the show in this fight as he has always done in previous fights.
