I stopped seriously rapping at 30 but I make beats now. Tbh ain't no money in either compared to the old days. BUT just because your not making millions off rapping doesn't mean you can't have a successful career. Plenty of battle rappers, underground thousandaires, people you make sync licensing music for TV shows and movies. We tend to think success in extremes and that's not what success is. And there's nothing wrong with being a older rapper, the genre is 50 years old so there are plenty of older fans that don't want to hear mumble rap or killing music.

I love charleston and I love this conversation. I turned 30 a few months ago. I put out my first album when i was 19. Last year i put out my 11th album. Plenty highs and lows. I think an independent artist in 2023 has to be more of an entrepreneur than just talent. Charleston is right in the sense of…you need a brand, a personality, and a business acumen to match the talent. Also, alotta niggas wanna be more famous than they are successful. Those two things are not the same. The business is complex, but I think it’s possible. Keep goin, stay persistent. Nothing happens overnight. Good luck to everyone.

I started rapping at 14 years old in 1996, I’m 41 today still at it full time. I work in my studio 9-5 Mon.-Fri. At 19 years old I signed a contract with Warner Brothers (deal fell through later) in 2005 I was featured on National TV and had over 2 million people dancing when I was featured on The Ellen Show. My music is still selling out overseas in places like Japan till this day. It’s giving me a great life.. don’t give up on your dreams.. I may not have become famous but everything I ever dreamed of, god made it come true .. I’ve traveled the world and hopped out of limos on many occasions. Now I’m working full time on my KZfaq channel and still making new music every week while running my own recording studio daily. The point is I’d would do this for free just like I did for years starting out. I do this because I love it. I can’t quit. No other genre of music has an age limit..

I used to think rap was a young man’s game but the older and wiser I get that more I see that I still like rap. I’d love for a nigga my age to rap (it has to be good of course) about the shit people my age be going through. Out the trap dealing with family issues, divorces, love lessons they learned etc. rap is the only genre of music that has an age limit. If a rapper picked up a guitar and made country music at 38 nobody would say a word. But there are hella “old people” that blew up past 27. Hell most of Griselda blew up on their late 30s. Jay Z, 50 Cent others have blown up after 30. Rap doesn’t pay true but you use your platform to brand and hustle something else. Use your talent for marketing’. And also doing the same thing over and over again is not the definition of insanity wish people would stop saying that. The CRAFT needs more rappers who add Wisdom to the culture with SKILLS. CW's opinion is based on an outsider thinking HIP HOP is about clout, money, gimmicks and fame. You can still be ALL about your business and still have success rapping. *Griselda *Money Man *Larry June A few names of successful rappers over 30 who give NO F*CKS about people judging them by their "age". Charleston... YOU would be wack at rapping. When you TALK people feel you. When you rap it would probably sound like a parody. Either their songs are GOOD or they aren't. Every rapper at EVERY age needs to be realistic with themselves, so I'll give you help Charleston doesn't have the GIFT to give you. If YOU play your music and NEVER hear anybody say "Play that again." You need to either get better or quit. That's right. I don't care if your hustle makes you successful eventually. We DON'T need any more wack rappers who sound the same with no SUBSTANCE in their music FEMALE RAPPERS included. The next person who will blow up knows they need to do the OPPOSITE of what CW is talking about because THAT'S THE POSITIVE SHIFT WE NEED and only NEW WAVES stand out among the rest. If people FEEL you than you have the GIFT that can't be taught or taken away by simply turning 30. KEEP PUSHING ✍️🏾✨️🎶💯

There is a difference between rappers who are serious artists who build longterm sustainable careers and those who view it as a get rich scheme and imitate whatever is possible, the same ones who do viral videos clout chasing to make a buzz, since their music hardly ever stands out from the rest of the oversaturated market

He speaking the truth. He not saying quit your dream of rapping, but let's be real, if you in your 30's and up, got a kid on the way, you gotta be realistic and get a job to handle your responsibilities. In other words don't just have a dream to rap without working on the side to at least pay your bills and feed your kid and keep a roof on your head, or your just gonna be going in the studio bumming it in other people house saying " When I get signed we gonna be set for life!". (Meanwhile your child is in a room of a random person house crying cause he or she is hungry and now you gotta come up with another plan to beg for money and saying when you "make it" that you gonna pay them back🤦)

Record Labels dont encourage older rappers because by that age you're not as naive and quick to sign anything they put in front of you. Now I do agree at some point if music doesnt work perhaps the skills and knowledge you picked up along the way can be useful in a different avenue. But I feel like that older model of the music industry wont change until someone of that age blows up and changes it. All it takes its one person to make it and it changes everything.

I only agree with him in the sense that you shouldn’t make it your only dream in life I have a brother that wanted to be a music artist and has a degree and he never used his degree to get a cool good paying job to at least help fund his music dreams and doesn’t use his other talents at all. He could’ve been a lawyer but just can’t let go of that rapper dream after turning 30, which 30 isn’t old but he refuses to start pursuing more than just music and it’s really sad because he was blessed with so many other talents and gifts. Dont quit your dream but dont make it your only dream, be open to exploring your other passions in life if one doesn’t work out
