Nice - I have a 2005 Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.7 liter V8, now has 213,000 miles and still running strong. Bought it couple of years ago for $3,700, since then I had to replace the engine and transmission which is expensive. But it runs great, good for the next 100,000 miles.

How much did it cost to replace the engine and trans?
@PeterRoos
@PeterRoos Жыл бұрын
@@zacharygalliher609 About $5,000 for the transmisson and $8,000 for the engine. I would recommend going to a specialized shop that will source the transmission / engine and build it in for you rather than purchasing an engine or transmission from a third party yourself. That way you can avoid getting caught between a rock and a hard plate in case there are issues (the engine rebuilder claiming that the shop did something wrong etc.). I tried to save a bit of money buying my own engine and it turned out into a big drama, first engine was bad and the supplier refused to honor the warranty.

I own a 2005 GC Limited with the Hemi, I bought it a 3 years ago with 62k original miles. So far I had to replace the Powertrain Control Module on it. I have since put a 2.25" Old Man Emu HD lift kit and a leveling kit to bring the front end up a bit, replaced the upper control arms with aftermarket from Rocky Road Outfitters, it allows for changing the ball joints without taking out the entire UCA. So far, this vehicle runs extremely well. I would suggest changing out all fluids if you are going to buy an older used one, you never know when The last time the fluids were changed. I have taken this GC on several off road trails and it can climb really well. I would recommend buying one with the Quadra-Drive II system.

The 4.7 PowerTech motors - at least the earlier ones - were notorious for head gaskets letting go as well as dropping valve seats, both at relatively low mileage. They sound great, but the performance is not what we would expect. Consider it a stepping stone to the 5.7 Hemi...... then get something with that in it.

Cranks no start. You can start by digging into your wallet. Could be quite a few things. The simplest is the CPS Crank Position sensor. Nothing but OEM for Jeep. MOPAR. If that fix the problem, then you probably have a bigger problem like the roter (sp) plate is worn, that the CPS connect inside the engine. Meaning, the plate inside the engine is worn. Hence, the engine is worn. And the new CPS didn't fix the problem, just belong until the CPS wears out again. I could be wrong there. Electrical, Ground I suspect... big issues with Jeep. Get your voltage meter or computer scan tool out. Start digging or sell. While your digging might as well check/clean the Yellow wire connection to your starter. Fifty bucks says it's probably loose poor connection or full of road debris. Get it. SELL.

05-10 No deal. Just a money pit.. Complicated design, flex fuel required in some models. I guess you can use 85 or 87grade. Terrible gas mileage 16 when fined tune. Ground, electrical problems that require an electrician to diagnose, that means shoppe. Serious electrical wiring issues easily expose to weather elements, or come loose. Oh, the jiggle the Yellow wire trick on the Starter that routinely comes loose...while driving, or gets corroded. Stalling issues while driving will test your nerves. Warm weather and long driving will overheat the engine, which reminds me short trips only. Transfer case Recall leaking issues. The whining you hear in back the gears needing readjusted, and or lose viscosity. Some parts are not replaceable without stripping the engine down bare. Must go the dealer for part replacement. No Auto(whatever) parts. Don't be fooled, looks nice, but just constant major issues just to keep in running. Oh, last but definitely not least the TIPM Total Intergrated Program Module system also connected to the Computer. Oh, the Computer module itself, unplug , plug back in trick, because the vehicle is stuck in gear. You will raise more than American flag...when find yourself and family stranded in your now Italian company owned using the American name Jeep. Not worth a dime.

@@tampaboyjames813 2005 with the 5.7 hemi within the first 5000 miles had major electrical issues the main wiring harness that runs between the motor and the transmission melted causing tons of random issues. It took them months to figure out what it was, and it melted because it had no heat shields or protection even though it was running right under the engine. They said it was because it was the limited model normally the engine is much smaller so there is more room for the harness like it wasn't their fault. I think I ended up paying around 7,600$ with all the visits before it was fixed. And even after that it was nothing but issues. anytime you drove through a puddle the check engine light came on. After 5 years of suffering the sunroof that I never even used started leaking. Water would run down the A pillars right into the dash. I parked it and never drove it again.
