Hi Charles, I was watching the England game last night (Irish btw) and thought that the decision to give a pen and yellow were spot on, the point being missed is that, it's not the fact he tried to block the ball but did it studs first, it's reckless and dangerous and anybody who has played at any level will tell you is excruciatingly painfull, he is fully allowed to try block it but nowhere on the pitch can you enter a challenge studs first, was shocked watching ITV that the commentary team were so adamant that it wasn't a pen! Regarding the pen: I don't think Kane's actions are relevant. Dumfries, who apparently agreed it was a pen, is out stretching his leg with studs up. If that makes contact anywhere further up the leg, sick as the shin, it could cause a leg break. That's why it's a pen. How many times have people like Neville himself called out players going into challenges with their legs/feet like that.
