On the album’s release day, we caught up with #Charli in her New York hotel room to discuss why she decided to give the album format another go, working with Sky Ferreira and Christine and the Queens, and finding power in vulnerability. Watch the conversation above, and read the full, unedited interview below.

She really should have still released it. There's some really spectacular stuff there. I had never heard of it until this interview, and I suspect most people except the hardcore fans wouldn't have either. It's not even anywhere on her wikipedia page. Anthony Fantano didn't know about it.

She is quite literally the most genuine artist I’ve ever seen. It’s so obvious when celebs put on phony personas, especially in interviews and it’s pretty aggravating. You NEVER see that with charli. She is truly herself 24/7 and it’s so rare to find people like that, especially in the music industry. She’s so down to earth and it makes me smile every time I hear a song, interview, ig video, Snapchat, livestream, anything from her.

"Listeners just want music" I've never heard truer words
@verbalwho
@verbalwho 4 жыл бұрын
Cody Henslee Honestly, I think that’s a little silly and short-sighted. The album format is important because an album should be an opus that tells a story. Not all of us just want a collection of tracks. I enjoy storytelling through music and that being done with a COHESIVE body of work.
@suffer4fashion
@suffer4fashion 4 жыл бұрын
@@verbalwho That assumes that the goal of the artist is to build a narrative and/or cohesion. As a listener, I tend to welcome the opportunity to listen to new music, no matter the format. Artistry is much more fluid and diverse than typical album cycles/expectations accommodate. Many artists don't work that way. At the end of the day, I honestly just want to hear more Charli doing what Charli loves to do.... which is music.

Teodor Eliasson lmao that’s not right, she’s in control of what she does, her sound is hers, of course the producers helped a lot but go listen to ag’s and sophie’s discography, they definitely share elements but it’s a different world, you should AT LEAST know a bit before speaking
@1998Cebola

Arturo Llll hahaha have you heard Charlis music before they got involved? And if her sound was hers she would be producing, but she isn’t.
@arturollll537
@arturollll537 4 жыл бұрын
Teodor Eliasson indeed I have, and an artist is free to experiment in his music, her debut album wasn’t the same as her second album, all of her mixtapes are different, not even in the ones produced by Sophie or ag are much similarities. She’s also credited as a producer in her latest album. The fact the she doesn’t straight up produce all of her music doesn’t mean she doesn’t have artistic control over it. Most bands don’t produce their music and that doesn’t mean their sound is not theirs.
@1998Cebola
@1998Cebola 4 жыл бұрын
Arturo Llll she makes some creative decisions based on what she is presented, but she is not the mind behind her sound. This sound would exist without Charli, it would not without AG.
