She describes exactly the feelings that one can have, if the only friend is the DJ on the radio. You may take a look at her fine side: www.charliedore.com/index_flas... * en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie...

This is one of my 'go to' songs. If I'm happy, or sad for that matter. It came out shortly before I left for the US Army. It reminds me of my friends, and the adventures that lay ahead. Thanks once again for posting.

This is perfection. Just looking, hearing, feeling, I teared up, remembering the times and experiences back the when I first heard this. A sublimely beautiful song, by a fabulously beautiful person. I shall teach this to my Grandchildren, when I think they might understand.

I'd not heard this in quite awhile but when I did I got that tingly feeling I get when I hear REALLY good music. I've been trying to find an acapella version of it but was unsuccessful. Just a suggestion to ANY acapella group who may post on KZfaq or Facebook. I think this song would be super with voices only.

1978. Wiki said: Pilot of the Airwaves", which went on to become an enduring radio classic, along the way reaching #13 on the US Billboard chart, earning Dore the Record World New Female Artist of the Year, an ASCAP award and charting in Canada, Germany, Australia and Europe. * The thing is: "Pilot of the airwaves" became a timeless song, because it describes the friendship many have ....not with their parents or friends , but with the DJ in the radio...

Charlie's birth name is actually 'Charlene'. Makes sense to me. Studio version hit #13 in Billboard, 5-3-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

Great song! I remember back when the Radio DJ was the "star" of the Airwaves, then MTV came and so "video killed the radio star", then came automation and killed them both

Nicht "Charlie Dore" ist ein Pseudonym .sondern "Juice Newton"= Judith Kay Cohen. Zwar hat Juice Newton AUCH diesen Song veröffentlicht,,,aber Charlie Dore´s EIGENE Komposition & Version lief seinerzeit auf allen Englisch sprachigen Sendern rauf & runter. Juice Newton hatte IHREN Sooper Trooper Erfolg mit: "Queen of hearts".....
