I've been following Charlie Hunter for nearly 30 yrs, and I especially enjoyed his play with my other all-time fave guitarists Ernest Ranglin and Stanley Jordan. And, now on this vid, I find one of the best duo plays, which is comparable to that of Richard Tee and Steve Gadd. I’ve never known Keita Ogawa, I think Keita is an ideal percussionist/drummer for Charlie. They are literally on the same wavelength, even sharing the same sense of humor.

Underrated singer. And I have to humble as well.Rare quality. And she musically converses with drummer as well. Not many can do that

This Charlie Hunter is a genius...how is one man playing the bass & guitar @ the same Damn Time is incredible to witness ... so good to see ... i think i remember the first time i heard you play was on the D'Angelo album 'Voodoo' around the year 1999-2000 ... i think the track was 'Mo - Gin' if i'm correct ..and there's another Latin vibe track that you were playin on ..but can't remember the name at the mo.. a true inspirational style of instrumentation..P.S The rest of the band are great too..the wonderful Lady on vocals has a great voice..very versatile...and i'm loving the interaction between you all and the drummer has a unique style too...Bless

it's called a calabash i believe- basically a big gourd cut in half. people play with their hands, this is the first kick placement i've heard. sounds massive

@@frommonkeytoman oh dang that does look like a gourd for a kick! thats pretty creative.. Its like the drum that the Tuareg people play in their music. the band Tinariwen has a guy that plays one of those big gourds with his hands, and I think the drummer had some rings on his thumbs or something also when I saw them play.
