I guess that's fair, it does kind of make Joji himself seem more shallow. But the song itself and the people who wrote it certainly aren't shallow and they deserve a ton of credit, especially Riley McDonough who both wrote and composed the original song with the help of Connor McDonough, Castle, and Alexis Kesselman TWO YEARS before Joji heard it. Here's a really touching statement from him about his personal connection to this song: June 10th. Two of the most pivotal moments of my life have happened on this date. June 10, 2016. - we lost a very dear friend, Christina Grimmie. I never could have prepared for the effects this night would have on my life. Being that the tragedy of losing Christina happened at our own show near where I grew up, this was very close to home both literally and figuratively. It took years of strong friendships and rebuilding to feel like a functioning human again, but it is something that will live with me forever. There were many different waves of real depression unlike I had ever known before that night. In times of sadness, my way of healing has always been writing songs. June 14, 2019 - a few days after the 3 year anniversary of losing Christina, I was really struggling at this time and life just didn't make sense. On this day, there's a voice memo I made of a song calling out to God where I asked "If I could only catch a glimpse of you". 6 months later, Dec 16, 2019 - I had a last minute writing session on a rainy Sunday with @connormcdonough, @i_am_castle_, and @idarosemusic. Many times in sessions I will just scroll the titles of my voice memos to see if anything jumps out. This day I saw the voice memo labeled 'Glimpse' and said "I love the word glimpse for something" and an entirely new idea was born. The song 'Glimpse of Us' was created that day. It wasn't until two years later, Joji heard the song and after some changes, the final version was made. June 10, 2022 'Glimpse of Us' was released to the world and went on to become the most successful song of our career as well as our first extremely notable work as songwriters. It wasn't until recently that I remembered what was said in that initial voice memo those years ago. Calling out for some bit of a sign. I now see that what I got back was tenfold to what I could have ever imagined. I write this to say that you never truly know the beauty that is constantly forming from the pain. Our hurt is never wasted. This is why I will forever pour my heart into everything I ever make. Sending only love. Thank you for listening.

There is no such thing as good or bad. Joji only provided his vocals without involvement in the songwriting or production. Creating music, especially writing and producing, requires significant effort. In the case of this particular song, many consider it a masterpiece. While there may be singers more skilled than Joji and Charlie, the unique contribution of the composer-songwriter is irreplaceable. Joji undeniably proved to be a perfect fit for the song.

Most industry popular music is written by members of the songwriters guild. 90% of “artists” are simply live performers and recording artists who have the face, style, character and voice to portray certain vibes for which the guild specifically write songs for, and pass songs around till an artist is either available to do it or a match made in heaven happens which is the case with glimpse of us. Mainstream music literally comes from factories in Hollywood and New York lmfao. All carefully designed to manipulate and sway the people, which I think is what is fuckin cool about music. Depends on the artist, because they receive trough others tons of other different type of songs, and in the same time they compose songs and send it to others. Just like Pharrell or Ed Sheeren does. So its not so uncommon. And delivering a song like this, Joji had to have a lot of input on this, because delivering something like this requires a big range of emotions. And it cannot be done overnight.
