President Carter said the Israel existence was a primary issue for him and his presidency. He frequently expressed the elements necessary for Israel’s future and a Palestinian state.

The Israel Lobby was not yet quite as powerful when he was in office, and that is why he can call Israel an apartheid state, which is stunning coming from an American president. Today, such words could never be uttered by a President, nor a congressman, nor a senator. Such a person would be professionally destroyed today.

you didn't actually pay attention and listen. He was very clear that there is nothing even remotely like apartheid in Israel. The apartheid is in the occupied territories of Palestine, not in Israel. And plenty of US Politicians and Zionists admit that, and say it's a problem. What else beloved Jimmy said, which you probably just skimmed over, was that the "right of return" cannot be granted. That little bit right there is the most profoundly zionist statement that anyone can make.
@MrAschiff6 ай бұрын
@@taylorbarrett384 There's no such thing as Palestine today. Before the creation of the state of Israel, the region was called Palestine, and it had a flag with a Jewish star. The Arabs had a chance to have a homeland next to Israel, but they rejected the Jewish homeland. Five Arab armies attacked Israel, and Israel won the war. Jews have been living in Palestine longer than the Arabs have. Whether the idea of a Jewish homeland came from atheists or not. they knew that the Jewish people had been living there. Islam existed in the sixth century in Saudi Arabia, where Arabs came from. There is no apartheid, Jimmy wrote, Israel: Peace Not Apartheid, suggesting Israel was an apartheid state. Benny Morris changed his view on the history of Israel. There is no such thing as the Palestinian territories.

Yes, they are. Israel has made numerous peace offers to the Palestinians. AIPAC supports a two-state solution, except that the Palestinians have rejected every offer that's been made to them. Just ask Bill Clinton, who said he broke his back to create a Palestinian state, only for Yassir Arafat to turn him down. This rejection of peace by the Arabs has been going on since the 1930s. In 1948, the Jews and the Arabs were offered a state side-by-side, Israel accepted, but the Palestinian Arabs rejected a Jewish state next to them. Five Arab armies attacked the nascent Jewish country, and Israel won. It's the Palestinians who've rejected peace.

When Anwar Sadat signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, Arafat’s PLO called for Egypt to be boycotted. For starters. Israel is not an Apartheid state. The Palestinians do not live in Israel, and they are not citizens. There are two million Arabs that live in Israel, and they vote and serve in the Knesset and in the Judicial system. They are not required to serve in the military. How many Jews live in Muslim countries. There are roughly twenty-five Muslim countries that surround Israel, which is the size of New Jersey. Where's your complaint about Iran, which is being run by Mullahs thanks to Jimmy's weakness. These Mullahs kill gays and women who seek their rights. Same with the men who want a secular state. Libya imports Africans for slavery. Saudi Arabia, like Iran, has strict Sharia Law. Israel has made peace with 6 Arab countries, four of which came in the Abraham Accords. Obviously, they see Israel, which has made great contributions to the world in its 75 years of existence, then the Muslims have in the last 1,000 years.
Borders have to be firmly defined and then segregation of who wants to be where Israel going ones there and Palestinians to their territory, where is the question of conflict when borders are clearly defined, legal like rest of world is. then what they do in their nations is further to be seen, such tiny nano nations exist in Europe why not in middle east.. where is the problem ?, problem is boundaries, just for sake of small pieces of lands you are killing the innocent public caught in it.

It's as if these people just wake up and feel their life would be in vain if they don't go hunt some Jews..not that they've been living under a vicious, humiliating occupation for decades. Daily scenes in the West Bank--even long before this interview--includes scenes where 18-year-olds (that's IDF soldiers) slap and humiliate fully grown adults/elderly, where settlers circle houses for hours if not days scaring people from getting out or scaring them out of their houses and villages for good, where people going to their 30-minute-drive jobs take it in 4 or 5 hours...and these are the nice parts.

Thank you, Mr. Carter! I wish we had a President in office right now who was able to speak with such integrity and moral clarity as you did.

"In the occupied territories there is a profoundly disturbing proof of apartheid in its worst form, and I would say it is much more damaging, in some ways, to the Palestinians under the subjection and domination of Israel, even than the black people suffered in South Africa"

He finished by, "I pray God" What a Soul. A perfect oposite of a Zionist. He definately lived a decent moral life.

Impossible. As long as one side has an arrogant "Super power" acting as its pimp.

Very mixed feelings seeing this today. I see a lot of good will and idealism in Jimmy Carter. But looking back it seems like it failed terribly. The US should have handled this tougher from the beginning. It was obvious that apartheid on the one side and terrorism on the other would be a ticking timebomb. What is currently happening is just making it worse. The US should take its role seriously and bring order in this terrible mess. Which unevitably means being tough towards both sides.

I used to be a big fan of two states but post oct 7 I gotta say most people in israel are not interested. A state is a neighbor. You don’t have to love them but you have to have a measure of trust between neighbors. After October 7, that will be incredibly difficult.

Charlie Rose's body language is atrocious. He comes across as such an arrogant person. Carter was amazing, as usual

It’s amazing that you can critique Israel without having to clarify that you don’t support Hamas every other sentence.
