I love how you can actually see Charlize suddenly realise calling her goat "Goat" maybe wasn't such a good idea...
@MartinMenge

It doesn't really translate well as it has a lot of depth to it. The word "bok" is more like "buck" and refers to gazelle, deer, antelope. It's also a term of endearment like "dear" and "deer" simultaneously. Its diminutive "bokkie" is used in the same way "baby" is used in English to refer to a loved one. Bambie is a "bokkie." For it to mean "Goat" it would have to be a conjunctive noun: "boerbok" which means that its a domesticated (farmed) gazelle-like animal.

It'd be cool, but I worry about my favorite actors getting caught up in a franchise and stagnating there for several years rather than doing a variety of standalone movies, especially if they want to do standalone action flicks like this one while they're still young enough to train heavily.

As a very little kid, I wanted so much to look/speak/be exactly like her in Mighty Joe Young when I grew up. I would even sing the African lullaby (Swahili was it?) to my stuffed animals. It's a really beautiful movie for anybody, but especially if you have kids and you want them to grow up with empathy for others (people and animals).

As a person with a Masters in Psychology (clinical), every time I see her on this or that tv show/interview, I wonder how she is with the fact that her mother shot and killed her father right in front of her when she was a young child. That HAD to be traumatic. Her mother is in her life a lot (according to her), and I wonder if, sometimes, she looks at her mother and suffers flashbacks. I also wonder if she just "gunny sacks" the memory, and her true feelings about that event, and if it colors her feelings about marriage. I dunno, I just feel for her.

The first time my folks took me on the NY subway system was in 1980-1981 when I was 4-5, and being robbed was a real danger. My Dad carried a snubnosed revolver in his jacket pocket. He cleaned it the night before at the kitchen table on an old shirt and let me help him with the oil. Back then the inside and outside of the trains were covered with graffiti. I remember asking my mom how and why the trains were painted, and she didn't have an answer for either question. When you went above ground, the trackside walls were a living canvas that changed every time we went into the city. It was incredible for a young boy to see. I've been a graffiti writer for 24 years starting in 1993. A trip on the subway is still a cultural experience, not child abuse. Children need exposure to an unpackaged aspect of humanity to develop an adult sense for a non b&w world. Otherwise they grow up believing in 'murca as a religion with some kind of silly Top Gun ideal of heroes and never learn critical thinking skills.

Anyone ever seen that show “I Get That A Lot” where celebrities work minimum wage jobs? They act like they’re mistaken for the celebrity all the time, even though it’s rly them. And when ppl say “you’re Gene Simmons” (for example), they say “I get that a lot.” In the Heidi Klum episode the same thing happened to her that happened to Charlize. Heidi was working in a pizzeria & there was a photo of her on the wall & she said “Heidi comes in here a lot. People say I look like her.” & one customer said “you’re skinnier than her. But her boobs are bigger.” 😬🤭 Heidi was funny. It was a fun show.

Well, everyone always says the camera adds 10 pounds, so it would make sense that people would say you were thinner in real life, no need to be surprised or dismayed. Although bearing that in mind, given how skinny actresses most look, it really makes you wonder if in person they're emaciated.
