The 1997 version (directed by Robert Young), music by Richard Harvey, produced by Greg Brenman, screenplay by Kay Mellor was broadcasted first on March 27th 1997
I love English Literature of the 19th Century - and I think that beauty, depth, skill and education shall be spread and people shall feel inspired to meddle with the beauties of life like music, art, science, religions and spirituality, philosophy and literature - driven by imagination, curiosity, creativity, spirit.

Very true - the appropriate actresses and actors can transcend a production - like in these two. Also Felicity Jones and JJ Feild (Northangar Abbey) and Jennfier Ehle & Colin Firth (Pride & Prejudice) are as brilliant as the latter ones. Thx. Enjoy.

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you, This is my absolute favorite Jane Eyre movie. Ciaran Hinds is the perfect Rochester. He plays the character with such complex passion and all consuming love for Jane. He is so torn it breaks my heart. Samantha Morton is beautiful as Jane. When they call out to each other near the end, I feel like she can't get there fast enough. I have watched 6 different Jane Eyre movies and this one is it.

Ciaran Hinds is handsome and bombastic as Mr Rochester but Toby Stephens was just magnetic in his depiction of the brooding anti-hero in the mini series adaptation. Hard to choose who I liked most in the role.

Bastion. Thankyou for this movie. I've never strayed from watching the Original first movie. This I thought would not be good. But it was very moving. I liked it by halfway & loved it by the end. Makes one want to marry for pure love and have a family.

You need to watch the 1983 or 2006 versions. This one is good but VERY abridged. There's no way to tell the whole story in an hour and 46 minutes.

Man i am an English medium student i couldn't read books from childhood age and now i am almost 18 . I am regretting about not reading to much books in childhood and sad about my poor result in English. Moreover I can't read the books as am busy with physics chemistry and maths. What can i do? I didn't realise my capacity until i learnt the recitation of the holy quran

Las siguientes versiones ni se acercan a esta visión y pespectiva exacta de ese tiempo. Es una historia muy triste que se mantiene en una realidad sin pomposidad ni exageración. Un placer volverla a ver.

I Wish more women were like Jane, I know I am, though it's not easy by a LONG SHOT. she respected herself enough not to give into temptation without ONE HELL of a FIGHT, ultimately even Edward respected Her and loved Her more for Convictions. JANE was No EASY GET, She made him WAIT, and that is Y I Like JANE EYRE she endured suffering to save her soul and their LOVE, instead of taking the easy way out that would have probably temporarily satiated their primal URGES..... RESPECT!!

If they had been allowed more time to tell the story, it would have been more accurate. But in 1:47? Can't be done. I would've enjoyed Bond & Hinds do this in a miniseries!

I really don't like this version of Jane Eyre, first thing is that she is overly cold, insecure and arogant in this adaptation comparing to others, and next thing is that Rochester calls her Jane early on of aquaintance (instead of miss Eyre) which in reality (book) he don't call her Jane until a proposal scene. The best and most faithful adaptation to book is from 1983 and 2006

Timothy Dalton, in my view, was the best Mr Rochester to-date. The waspish humour he brought to the role was superb , although it was a tad comical when he described himself as unattractive. The Blanche Ingram in that version was far closer to the imperious beauty than the portrayal of her in this film - Samantha Morton is far prettier than this one, even though she's shorn of any adornments. She's the perfect Jane though.

I just can't like this version. The story is so rushed and Rochester so gruff that I can't see how Jane could fall in love. And we don't get to see Jane's other relationships and experiences that are key to her character.

Watched this version last week. I thought it was awful!! especially Ciaran Hinds. Samantha Bond’s Jayne wasn’t any better. I saw Ciaran Hinds in an adaptation of Catherine Cooksons ‘The Man Who Cried’ and he was just as awful in that. I could watch either to the end!

Well, i watched them all, and they are all good I’ ve read the book and I can say this one is one of the best Jane Eyre! Mr rochester is closest to what i imagined while reading the book. Excellent actors and Jane is also good representation of Jane from the book. Excellent. i watched it before, great movie! No visit to aunt, that s even better, boring part. Btw this woman has no boobs at all 🙃
