This was a great video explaining the first CM principle! I have already referred a few curious friends to your channel so they can understand CM. You explain things so well and easily!

My thought is, if you don’t expose them to childish material they won’t miss it.

I agree with this. We get to set their appetitive tastes as mothers, and setting in on better things-just like with food-is such a gift to the child!

Autumn ♥️ thank you thank you for your podcast and this channel. I’m not going to admit to how many times I’ve cried listening to you…. But I really am so grateful for the truth, beauty and goodness you’re putting out into the world. The concept of not manipulating our children is one that stuck out to me as something I need to work on. Do you have practical suggestions of how to encourage children to do good/obey parents because it is right? It makes so much sense to me, but I’m struggling to help it unfold in my home. We have some bad habits we need to undo.

Sarah, thank you! What a kind note to send my way. That fourth principle is always smacking me in the face too! In Ep 07, I'm going to run through how we use our family rules in habit training/giving the inspiring idea of "what is right." I think that might be helpful most immediately. I'm also working on some video content for Common Mom (so, right here!) that should give some more practical angles in the coming months. One really easy thing to start doing is to ask, "What would be the right thing to do right now?" or "What would've been the right thing to do at that moment?" (Or a variation for your kids' ages.) The mind making the connection is the mind learning, so this part is really important. I also try really hard to make sure they can *feel*, in our atmosphere, that obedience leads to joy. We play random "obedience games" where I'll tell them to do wildly fun things like "roll across the floor, jump on the couch twice, crawl under the table, and then run back to me." Yes, it's goofy, but I'm training the habits of attention and obedience in a way that highlights the joy of our fellowship. Running that habit track of joy-filled obedience helps a child form the habit/love of obedience when it's just ordinary life too.

I’m really excited I’ve found you. As a newish homeschooler I’m feeling a little overwhelmed and it almost seems easier to pick and open and go curriculum but I feel like there’s SO much more I want for myself and my kids. So thank you!!! Also I’m not sure if I’m picking it up wrong but is there something wrong with being a KZfaqr? I actually want to start a KZfaq channel and I have leaned so much from KZfaq. That’s how I found you!

Hi Laura! So glad to have you here! Ah, I see my jokes have been heard. I poke fun at things to bring a levity to serious matters so people will pause and rethink them. Is there something wrong with being a KZfaqr? Depends on how we define KZfaqr, right? In this case, does it cultivate good things in us if we create "channels" around ourselves? I'd argue it's probably not great for the creator or the viewer. Is it good/helpful to use KZfaq to point people towards really good things outside of ourselves? I think so. (ie. In my case, I try to point out to truth, goodness, and beauty and equip moms to apply living ideas to all of life in ways that bless their families, not to do it "just like me".) So, per the norm, the question is much bigger than it seems at first glance. What continues to be helpful for me as I create is to ask: What is a person? How are they formed? And to what end ought we aim? If I'm honoring the viewer as an image bearer in both medium and content, then I'm thankful for KZfaq as a place to share!
