Hey Russ, when you leave Durango, you may want to check out the Bakers Bridge just a few miles north of the town. Thats where they filmed Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid leap off the big rocks on the East side of the river. Its a historical land mark. Check it out!

New Mexico is such a sleeper of a State. There are way more varied areas and terrain than you can imagine, and the History, most people ignore even looking into, but it is fascinating. My good friend who is now deceased, well his Uncle was the last Train Robbers, Black Jack Ketchem, who met his demise in New Mexico. Joe was a character too. We have only been exploring more and more of it due to a Nephew living in Albuquerque, which is a great starting point for so many of these trips.

Great road trip, you passed thru Tierra Amarilla where Reis Lopez Tijerina was arrested back in the early 60s because of a land grant issue. The route through Durango via 550 is the more scenic on the Million Dollar Highway, you will see another narrow gauge railroad.

When you asked if we could see your van, I said no and then you said it was hidden and I didn't feel so bad. My Mom was born in Cedarvale, NM. Close to Albuquerque. Just a little town, but when it cools off we may take a trip up that way. So beautiful right now when you are there.

😊 always enjoy your videos, I was born in Aurora Colorado 😊at Fitzimmons Army Hospital in 1955 , my father was stationed there. I have a grandson that is living in Steamboat Colorado, he and his wife work at the Ski Resort there,during the winter and they do landscaping work in the summer,.😊

I have been to a hot springs resort a number of years ago. My husband and I stayed at Miracle Hot Springs in Buhl. ID. Absolutely wonderful adventure.

I've taken a few trips to southern Colorado myself in recent years. It's beautiful. Took a different route, so I've never been to Pagosa Springs, but I've been to Durango, and a much smaller town called Dolores. I've shot some amazing photos in a little park near Dolores Creek. If it's not on your itinerary this year then I hope you can see it another time. Ouray is another town worth seeing.

I really enjoy these longer format videos, please keep doing them. That was a beautiful trip to Chama, such a gorgeous area. I love the train station as they remind me of the trains in Europe that I travelled on as a child. The springs are great to visit for your health, they are more common and more affordable in Europe. The railroad in Chama is the same as the one in Durango, its all part of the old Denver & Rio Grande narrow gauge system. They built into Chama in1880, you can still ride the train, it is a 64 mile journey. You can start in Chama or Antonito on the other end, with a buffet lunch in Osier halfway. It is a fantastically beautiful ride, although the ride from Durango up to Silverton is a little more pretty. Too bad the train wasnt running, in Chama you can walk all over the yards and stand right next to the track as it goes by. Durango is fenced off.

I remember riding both separately as a kid which is why more than 64 miles. And Chana was actually more scenic. Although they are two different rides I could be wrong on which is better.

Another splendid video! Great job! The Cumbres and Toltec runs right by the RV park and the people wave at the train when it goes by. The passengers wave back! The cost is modest considering what you get to see plus a hot lunch half way to Antonito at a dining room at Ossier. Next time you are through, you should take the ride. You get a bus ride back to Chama. Safe travels!

One of my favorite drives on 64 or 84 through Chama getting in to southern Colorado for a few weeks in late summer or early fall. NM/CO 17 out of Chama is also a beautiful drive up to the Conejos River and Platoro. Enjoyed the virtual. visit.

Really nice to see this portion of your trip. My dad and I followed the same route on our first trip to Colorado back in 1965. The railroad was being decommissioned at that time and there were tons of old rolling stock in the yards at Chama, fascinating to see!

Hi Russ: Enjoyed your travel through Northern New Mexico and on into Colorado. Beautiful drive north to Chama over Brazos Pass at 10410 ft, the highest paved road in New Mexico. The Cumbres and Tolteck railroad in Chama is a tourist train that snakes it's way north for 40 miles or so into Colorado before making the return trip. The Cumbres and Tolteck railroad crosses the highest active rail pass in the US at Cumbres Pass in Colorado. Tennessee Pass near Leadville is higher, but the rail line has been inactive since 1997.

Traveled this area in June 2018 but took US 84 from Santa Fe to Chama. As a rail enthusiast I organize my itineraries accordingly. Unfortunately, at Chama no locomotives were in steam nor at Antonito at the other end of the line when I stopped there on my return to Santa Fe later in the week. I was on my way to Durango and I passed through Pagosa Springs with barely a backward glance. Hot springs were not a sufficient enticement to stop. I do enjoy your travels immensely and am looking forward to your next adventure in Durango. I now have one of your T shirts to use on my future journeys.

LOve the videos! I have been to a few hot springs but I go in the winter ,even with snow on the ground🙃looking forward to the Durango stop my daughter was there in June and saw some of the pictures but yuour cameras will show much more.

Hey Russ, greetings from Lake Itasca State Park! My friend and I stayed in Chama many years ago on our way to the Great Sand Dunes and Durango. Lots of pretty country up there. At the end of the episode you mention Chimney Rock--it's well worth a stop to take a tour of the ruins at the top...they drive you up in a shuttle van so there's not a lot of hiking involved. Happy trails!

Hey Russ, awesome video. Next time you go to Santa Fe, go out to Taos and head south on 64 to Cimarron Colfax County. Check out the Express St. James Hotel. Aztec Mill Museum Philmont Boy Scout Ranch and the National Boy Scout Museum. Check out Springer and Maxwell and head north to Raton, NM. Take care, be safe,

Very nice video. We spent some extended summers in Chama a few years ago. Summer weather is great, cool at night and warm in the day. We always stayed at Sky Mountain Rv Resort. A nice place to escape the Iowa heat.

I liked Pagosa Springs. When we went through in 2018 the river was about a drinking fountain of flow. We were on our way to Durango, Mesa Verde, Gunnison Canyon.

A camping buddy and I would take hwy 64 thru Taos on our way from Texas to Pagosa Springs. Stopped at the very location you did with the view overlooking the valley. I remember the A frame structure @ 2:18. Beautiful view and really love the video. Thanks for posting.
