Best of luck, and thanks for your quick review on your benchtop bandsaw. Have a scroll saw and a 17 inch 2 hp bandsaw. Great for resawing rough milled hardwood. Now you can put your ideas to work!

Great review. I have a Record power BS250. It’s OK, for what I do, but that Charnwood is a nice bit of kit. Sorry, but your face when using the bandsaw was funny, you looked really scared. 😉🤣😃👍

Thanks Jonathon, very informative review. I am just about to buy one for myself I hope! You mentioned repurposing the old saw as a belt sander, did you do that? Do you have any link to anyone that has?
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
I haven't repurposed the old band saw yet, but i have seen it done. The tricky bit is you have to make the belt for it. There are a few videos how to make your own sanding belts though but not specifically for a bandsaw. I will go ahead and make a video on it!

Hi, nice video, you didn’t go into setting up the guide bearings? Just bought a second hand one, found the guides bit fiddly! I love Yandels.
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
the guide bearings were a bit fiddly and would have needed a whole new video! the best video I have seen for setting the bandsaw correctly was on the wood whisperer channel, here's a link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mN6GrK6kx9vbioU.html this method worked perfectly for me!
@WasimBarri4 жыл бұрын
Have you had any problems adjusting the bearings for new blades, particularly the thrust bearings above and below the table? I've heard they're very fiddly. Thanks for a good video BTW!
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
Thanks.for.your comment, the first or second time you adjust them it does feel a little fiddly. But.i.have found it a just getting used to a new system. Initially I followed charnwoods instructions exactly and they are a littke fiddly. I watched a few "How to tune your bandsaw" videos and realised it's not difficult at all. If you check my Instagram page , I cut through a 8" x 9" block of solid pine with no issues at all. instagram.com/p/B3Elp3wH9Ro/?igshid=z4fnj96ah8l4

Hi Johnathon, just came across your video as I will be in the market for my first bandsaw soon. I was wondering what made you pick this one over the Charnwood W730? I know the differences but am wondering whether they are worth the extra money? Also looking at the Scheppach Basa 3. Thanks for making the vid.
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
The w730 looks great and yandles has it at an amazing price! This model is new and wasn't available when I got the b350. It looks comparable and is £150 cheaper. I am not a big fan of scheppach although i have never tried this bandsaw. My concern with them is more their customer service and returns policy. Any issue you have with their products needs a formal investigation and you need to ship the defective product back at your cost for them to decide what to do. I know alot of people swear by their tools but maybe I just had a bad experience. This is my second large Charnwood saw and i have no complaints at all

Johnathon, firstly, love your work from your other vids. Main question how are you finding this bandsaw a year down the line especially the paint issue (I have one being delivered tomorrow hence the interest)
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
thank you! very much appreciated! still love this bandsaw, I use it almost daily and it gets worked a lot. as for the paint issue, I touched it up with some rusto-leum and haven't had any issues. I find the perfect size blade for this was the 3/8th width, lets me do all the curves and straights that I want. don't regret this purchase at all. just wish I had also purchased the movable base. this is a heavy sucker! you wont regret it and definitely spend some time tuning it.
@madhamish014 жыл бұрын
@@JohnathonWhittaker Much appreciated, I'll run it for a couple of months and if all is well give it a touch of paint assuming they haven't improved on that aspect. I'll probably build a moveable base sooner rather than later. All I've got to do now is convince myself that I really don't need to upgrade my table saw as I rather liked your one!

@@madhamish01 ah love my table saw too! But if i was to choose, band saw. I use it way more. But saying that, there are a few crucial things that a bandsaw just cant do! Fast repeatable straight cuts, strange fixed angles, speed for multiple cuts. Sorry, not helping 😁. For me and what i do, sculpture and carving, a bandsaw is great. For general woodworking, i woukd say table saw

Hi, I'm looking to buy this bandsaw. The information on that web says the blade length is 2560 mm. I'm looking to invest in better blades but most I see are not exactly the same length as the stock blade. Would it be okay if I got some blades 5 mm longer or would that be a problem?
@JohnathonWhittaker Жыл бұрын
5mm difference is fine and perfectly normal. Each brand maker is slightly different. The saw can tighten blades up to 65 mm so there is alot of room to play with.

Hiya Johnathon! you have had the band saw for a few months now, How are you finding it? I'm currently in the market for a serious upgrade to my own Band aw, and this is the one i'm leaning towards. How are you finding it? Pro's / Cons? Appreciate any feedback before I take the plunge!!! Nice video by the way :)
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
Had this for 7 months now I think and I love it. Wish I had bought one sooner! Well worth the purchase. Important things are to set it up well and adjust the bearings correctly. Also buy decent blades. I can easily cut through a 9 inch slab of pine with little hesitation in the motor. Only con is i need to readjust the fence periodically but I find that's the same with the majority of band saws. Besides that, no issues at all. Also I wish I had gotten the wheel base accessory. This thing is heavy and I do need to move it regularly.
@andy.elliott.foreverpens4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnathonWhittaker glad it turned out to be a good purchase, thanks for the feedback, appreciate it loads. I'll be doing an unboxing video of my own when it arrives. I'll link yours if you don't mind as the video I watched!

Have you had any issues with the bottom wheel's tracking?
@JohnathonWhittaker5 жыл бұрын
I have had to re-tension the bottom wheel a few times but the tracking has been just fine. I routinely change between a 1/8th And a half inch blade as well so I regularly need to adjust for blade change

I am considering buying a Charnwood B350 from Yandles. Your video was very helpful. May I ask if you are still positive about the product after one years use?
@JohnathonWhittaker4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, yes still love it and use it almost daily. Once i got it set up and tuned right it does everything i want it to. Would definetly buy again. Only wish i had bought the movable base as well. This thing is heavy!

@@JohnathonWhittaker Hi Jonathan, thanks, there is another company called Lumberjack who have exactly the same machine. Even the wording of the description/spec. is identical. They are around the same price s the Charnwood model but just offered me a 10% discount. I will chat with Yandles to see if they can do similar. I will get the wheel base. Have been also looking at the Record Power machines which I really like but the 300E is £110 more and 350S £160, somewhat over budget. Will let you know how I get on.

I have an inexpensive WEN and it has been working great. Be interested in what you think of your after you use it for a while. Always fun to spend good part of a day assembling these things (base, etc.). Gave you a sub. Hopefully you would get some value out of my woodworking channel as well. SmallWorkshopGuy
