It was clearly shown that this was a downpour. The heaviest rainfall all day. Besides, they clearly showed that the rain that stopped the race was the heaviest rainfall all day. And they learned that when it rains more than just a mist or drizzle that it creates large puddles, makes the cars hydroplane and reduces visibility to unsafe levels. So imagine them racing down that massively long straightaway in even heavier rain than before. You would be mad that they *didn't* throw the caution for rain because Chase spun out on a puddle, or rear ended a slower car in the low visibility.

4:14 you can see the legitimate fear by how big Harvick's eyes are through his foggy helmet. I don't agree with what he said in his interview but I can't blame him for saying it in heat of the moment. That was probably terrifying.

Larson, he had a 10 second gap over Joey almost and plenty of fuel. Chase was going to pit, but have a massive lead, so they would have just put in about a couple seconds or so of fuel and could have gotten him out 2nd, maybe 1st if he built up about a 25-27 second lead. Chase had a 15 second lead on Larson when they called the yellow flag.
@tstuff1213
@tstuff1213 3 жыл бұрын
Chase had a HUGE lead 10+ seconds on larson, and larson had a large gap to anyone behind him. It was either going to be Chase or Larson and i think it would have been chase. He was 2 seconds a lap faster even with older tires than Larson and had a huge lead on larson so once he finished his pitt he still would have only been a few seconds behind larson when he left and could have easily made up that time in the laps remaining. Chase was at the end by far the fastest car and driver on the track.

@@ethanweeter2732 They said he needed a 22 second lead to safely be able to stop and still come out with the lead. That would have been pretty cool to see. I think he would have had that by the time he stopped with how things were going.

At first I wasn't so sure, but what ever they changed on that car at the end, he was just on a whole different level. I didn't realize he actually had the most fastest laps of any driver. But also not shocked.

@@trent7736 Not true at all. Had they continued the race, because of the yellow he would have made it on fuel. Had there not been a yellow at all he was easily on pace to be able to pit for a splash a fuel and get out before losing the lead. So really there was a strong possibility he still would have won it. especially with how much faster he was.

I know you can't control the weather, but this wasn't the best first impression for the series at COTA. May is the rainiest month in Austin. For 2022, it might be smart to schedule this race for March or early April. Take advantage of the better weather.

@@ethanweeter2732 Maybe, but I believe June usually gets close to the same amount of rain. I was thinking earlier in the schedule, just so the series can take advantage of the warmer climate. Instead of worrying about the weather in Bristol at the end of March, run in Austin.
