The growls in this album are meant to be the voice of the matriarch. The entire album is the story about a matriarch that awakens an ancient warrior and sends him to kill her sons so she can drink their blood and live eternally. I'd totally recommend you listen to it.

No that's it, I've had enough, I can't do this anymore, I have to buy this album. The speaker in my mobil is crap just as you say, the stereo in my car is reasonably good so with the CD I can play it there instead, and as loud as I want without everyone in my house sh*tting themselves. I also believe that musicians should be payed for their work and buying the album is how you do that. You and your review made me do it, Chase 😀 Cheers / B.

But since I know you liked getting to see them play in Awakening, in case you didn't see them yourself or someone else didn't say, both the guitarist and bassist have playthrough videos that they posted for this specific song. The songwriting process for this album was really cool So the whole album is a concept album that tells an epic fantasy story (if you get a chance you should listen in it's entirety, best album of 2017 imo). In terms of how it was written, Brittney decided upon the overarching plot for the album, decided she wanted 10 tracks and wrote a synopsis for what each song would be about. So for example this track you just listened to is where The Matriarch gives the Immortal his mission to go and bring her sons to her. She then gave that info to the rest of the band who wrote the music to fit her ideas. She then took the music that they had written and wrote the specific lyrics to fit that music. The one slight deviation from this process was that for track 3: The Matriarch she already knew what she wanted to sing in part of the chorus so the band wrote the music to fit that. But yeah, super awesome album. One of my all time favourites.

This is a great song. The album that it's on is called Apex and it's a concept album about a character named The Immortal who is awakened by the evil Matriarch. The Immortal is cursed in a way so that whomever awakens him gets to use him to do their bidding and he must submit to their whim. The Matriarch requires him to kill her sons so she can use their blood in a ritual to gain immortality. That's the general story of the album, but it's a solid album all around and it's what really brought Unleash the Archers to more audiences. They have a new album coming out this year called Abyss and it's the sequel to Apex that continues the story of The Immortal. I'd recommend checking out one of their older songs called "General of the Dark Army". That song and its accompanying music video were made before they were signed to a major record label, but it has a LOT of technical parts and pieces that I think you'd really enjoy dissecting. Great reaction and insight to this song man! Thanks!

This is honestly such a beautiful song. Like it's metal and all that but it really is one of the most graceful songs I've heard. The bridge particularly, with that floating melody, makes my eyes slightly watery. Sometimes in my head, I hear this song as ballad with just piano and vocals. The chords are so pretty. Anyway just waffling, thanks for the great reaction again! Also a little thing if you might've heard it, in the chorus and main theme, before the gallops, the bass player does some pretty cool chords and voice leading. It's a little nugget that blew my mind when I first heard it! Keen for your next vid :)

This album (Apex) is a concept album that starts with 'Awakening' and tells a story throughout. They use different vocals at times to represent different characters in the story. Nightwish is the only band you have reviewed that I knew the songs before joining your channel. And of all the bands you have covered so far, Unleash the Archers amazes me the most. I really love their sound, and i love that it is a story they are telling, creepy but i can't stop watching. Some things: 1. At the whisper part, i was also hearing the whisper of the cymbols in my left ear, it was like another whisper matching the person whispering back and forth. 2. About halfway through i accidentally turned closed captions on while you were talking, and when it went back to the music, it was when the double kicks were starting, and the closed caption said [Applause] lol 3. The singer looks like the twin of somoene i know :D 4. What happened to the top of the bass guitar? Thank you again for intrudicing so much good stuff to us. I want to get this album for sure.

I knew this was going to a be a good reaction! I can't remember if you know or not, but the album this is from, Apex, is a concept album so yes, there's a big story going on. It'd be great if you could react to the album from start to finish, although I realise that's probably a no-no, but you owe it to yourself to listen to it that way, I think. After you've reacted to the title track, of course! Incidentally, their forthcoming album, called Abyss, is another concept album and a direct sequel to the story of Apex.

I would love for you to go back and analyze their growth from "demons of the astrowaste" album to now. They were great then imo, a little more raw, great in a different way, maybe not quite as technically proficient but I absolutely would love for you to break down (and I know everyone is going to say "General of the Dark Army" and they should don't get me wrong it's amazing) "Daughters of Winterstone" or "Realm of Tomorrow" or "Despair" or one of those really long tracks at the end of "Demons of the Astrowaste"...maybe just do the whole of their discography lol. I hope you've now found the story of the "Apex" album, and of course their new album is basically the part 2 of the story. Demons was also a concept story album, of course anything off of "Time Stands Still" ("Tonight We Ride" is just the greatest eargasm ever) namely "Frozen Steel" and "Dreamcrusher" for me personally.....OK so i've advised everything and am of no use to you, I can't help it, they're just that good and so is your analysis!

Hello Chase, UTA is freaking awesome as is your reaction. It's great that you stop and explain the music. Now I wish Brittany and Floor Jansen would get together for an album.... I know, the world isn't ready for that yet!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

@@ChaseCarneson both are amazing! Might I recommend general of the dark army first? Brittney Slays has videos of her explaining the story behind each song in Apex and watching that makes each song so much better.

Up in the Canadian North, it's always a good idea to get a little fire going. Otherwise the cold will kill you. Seems like BC is getting to be like Winnipeg, a source of music. Check out what's come out of Winnipeg. It's too cold in winter to be outside so the kids stay in basements and become rock bands.

I highly highly HIGHLY reccomend you listen to the entire album Apex, whether on the channel or your own time. Delve into the lyrics! It tells the story of The Immortal, awaken from his thousand years of slumber. As many others have said, The Matriarch has summoned him to capture her three sons. There are actually three separate songs dedicated to each son! She needs their blood for a ritual to become immortal herself. This is by far my favorite band to date and am SO excited for the sequel album coming in August!!!

Hi ! Nice reaction/explanation :) I love the entire Apex album and especially those 3 tracks: « Apex », « The Coward’s Way » and « Ten Thousand Against One ». It would be cool if you do a reaction to one of these tracks. Oh and the new UtA album is coming :D

Hey Chase, not necessarily a reaction suggestion, but I recently ran across something you might be interested in. UTA's Bassist from this album, Nikko Whitworth, has his own small KZfaq channel. He has a bass playthrough for "Cleanse the Bloodlines" (and "Tonight We Ride") and it adds a whole new level of awesome. Just search for him and you should find it. Just thought you would be interested.

Just making my way through your UTA reactions. We've never really found ourselves able to enjoy this song from them personally, never really been able to figure out why. You've at least helped us to be able to appreciate it better and enjoy it a little more than we did. Unfortunately, the music video tends to be a little bit triggering for us as well.
