YD-43 had an unfortunate run-in with an auto carrier truck that had apparently bottomed out and gotten stuck at the Station Road grade crossing in Denville (Mount Tabor Station) this evening. The locomotive was running long hood forward at the time when it collided with the trailer carrying the cars at 47 MPH, minimizing the damage and limiting the severity of the injuries to the crew onboard 4110. The trailer clipped the engineer's side of the locomotive, bending the rear set of grab irons, before being swung out around the crossing, dislodging several of the vehicles on it and taking out one of the crossing gates. Fortunately, no pedestrians were in the immediate vicinity of the crash.
My original plan for the night was to finish up at Convent and head home, but upon receiving word that the move, which we had just caught flying through, was involved in this incident, we made the decision to chase this down as we were still in the general area. After a few pictures at the site, we proceeded to Denville to wait for the move to get back underway towards Dover. Enjoy =)
