A bit of a mix of a few different feral pests taken out in this video. But it just goes to show how handy it is to have a semi-auto when you come onto a mob of pigs in close quarters!!

G'day Josh Great to see the gadget you made for removing the stakes, as you said takes up a hell of a lot less space in the trapping kit than the hydraulic jacking attachment I suggested and your idea 💡 to make up a gadget for your high lift jack. Like the simplicity of the slide on plate as effectively a fulcrum leverage (getting a bit technical eh?) I have mentioned previously 'bout foxes chewing off a trapped paw and it sure looked like the one you got was doing that and probably a few more hours later would have been away. As much as they're a bloody pest, you can't deny (and possibly admire) their cunning and desperation. Keep up with knocking the moggies mate, the little kangaroo rat would have Buckley's if it came up against a cat. Is Caleb your brother? Best wishes from South Oz.

Yes I do boil them in a dye and then to wax them I boil water and put the wax in the water to melt. Then sit a trap in for about 30 seconds till it's hot then slowly lift it out and the wax floating on top of the water gives it a thin coating all over. Works very well.

Our southern states from Texas towards the east are infested with feral hogs. Anyway I ran across this video, "Dingo: Wild Dog At War" it reminded me of the keystone predator, not to be confused with the apex predator. When you remove the keystone predator from the equation, other species either explode out of control or decrease in numbers throwing the ecosystem out of joint. I think the Dingo can be both an apex and keystone in some environments. Please watch it and let me know what you think. I was thinking while watching your videos that wouldn't the dingo be an effective predator against the other invasive animals, the cat, fox and rabbit. If by removing the dingo's source of food, fox, cat, and rabbits, are you inadvertently causing dingo predation on your livestock? "Food" for thought, how to manage the delicate cycle? kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gciSp92aqJjbh2g.html
@intothenight1993
@intothenight1993 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Yes i have seen it and agree to a certain extent. That might be true out in more arid country where there aren't as many food options out there. I very much doubt that dingos would eat a cat or a fox unless they were starving. They would much rather eat a wallaby or something like that. Yes they often prefer eating the native animals but they will still attack calves and sheep for fun and also to teach their pups how to kill. There is absolutely no shortage of food here in the way of wallabies and kangaroos etc but they still chew calves. So in my opinion they need to go. That's why i shoot and trap all the dingos, cats and Foxes i can. And pigs because they can carry diseases that affect the cattle. That's my view anyway.
@cherylmillard2067
@cherylmillard2067 Жыл бұрын
@@intothenight1993 Thank you for being open minded!! As they basically said in the documentary that each situation is different, etc. You know what works for your situation. I would have a very difficult time letting nature "take its course" and would be managing things much as you are, I have to be hands on. I think that it's easier for dingoes to take a calf or sheep instead of wasting their energy chasing down faster game like wallabies and kangaroos, so they kill domestic livestock. Feral hogs are prolific breeders and a nuisance to livestock and crops. Have a wonderful day!!

@@intothenight1993 Interesting topic & possibilities. It seems from youtube hunting exercises that in some areas there are not a lot of little pigs (like these ones), and the likelihood of dingoes being the cause seems valid? Drawing conclusions on such interactions can be variable, science helps but is still a "snapshot" when applied to animal behaviour. Had several instances where the pests didn't read the reports and had to work out what was happening & maybe why. It's also a risk to accept what experienced operators assert too, both what and why. Some hunters who produce tallies are misdirected is their conclusions, some very. And get very assertive about their beliefs. Dogs happily eat dogs at times, so foxes etc are likely prey, particularly where dogs are skinny. There seems no other solutions to protecting stock (exclusion?), although a resident pack that doesn't worry might exclude other problem dogs perhaps. The domestic influence is likely to confound that, & dominance changes.
