Casts are actually thinner than the real piece most of the time. If you got to 1/4” that’s only about 25-30% thicker than the Sweetwater biface. Sounds like a lot but we’re taking mm. You’re piece is longer and wider too. Great job! You’re extremely talented and I know how much time you’ve put in perfecting your craft.

You are amazing .... One of the best rockdoctors Ive ever watched ..... and I could watch you knap for as long as you could do it comfortably . I enjoy watching someone that can read a rock and make something so fragile and beautiful . I would love to have one of your blades like this ...please pm me and give me an idea if that is possible . I learned how to knap 5 years ago and then had to have 6 spinal fusions ,2 in my neck and 4 in my lower back , and after having the bones at the back of my neck removed , I can no longer look down for more than 10 minutes before the pain and pressure builds to where I get nauseated and have to lay down and take weight off my neck ...so ...from owning two in home business es for 23 years and being super active to 16-18 hours a day in bed , makes for no more knapping ...I even made jewelry for sale with the small items ...hearts , arrow heads , and feather earring/necklace / bracelet sets ...sold many but enjoyed the joy they brought to others more than the monetary end of it ... Hopefully I will hear back from you Jason ....you are an amazing knapper , to put it mildly ! May GOD continue to richly bless and keep and yours ...!

I noticed you abrade less than anyone Ive ever seen and still have great results. This leads me to believe that most people over abrade, or it has something to do with your use of solid copper billets and/or your method of how you appear to be creating a "bending" flake as opposed to just striking the platform.

Very well done! In regards to the Sweetwater and other ultrathin bifaces from prehistory, what are your thoughts on tools/methods used by the authors of these original pieces? I've sometimes wondered if there weren't teams, one guy holding the biface, one holding the indirect tool, and one striking. Or maybe it was one guy doing the most incredible direct percussion imaginable. Regardless, it's fun to think about and neat to watch you work.

I've seen casts of the Sweetwater blade and pictures of the blade itself, the cast always seem thinner, I guess it's due to shrinkage from the curing process.

@myBanjohasemgz
@myBanjohasemgz 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomas! It is 6061 alloy, and the larger billets I use are 1 3/4 wide x 6" long and one is 3" long. I also use a 1 1/2" x 3" as I get into later stage
