The full video of the chase of a WP 7200 steam loco led heritage train by hanging alongside a slow local train on a parallel track.
The event was the celebration of 100 years of completion of Western Railways division, celebrated by running a heritage train, painted with western railway livery.

Really takes you back in time, very nice coverage. When i was young, after a journey by steam engine hauled trains over one leg ( viramgam to Ahmedabad), the Ahmedabad - Mumbai leg used to be hauled by electric loco. Back then there was more exitement to be travelling by a smokeless hauled engine and at much higher speeds. However much like me i am.sure people world over yearn to travel by trains hauled by the steam engine, a memory you can never forget.

Very good video. These engines used to be quite fast.This engine seems to lack power! I have travelled on the footplate of the WP locomotive. Frightening experience with the engine wobbling all over the place.

Yes very true the loco has lost a lot of its power . I too have travelled on my Uncles loco but metre gauge and the cab moves so much . Thank you for the nice comment . Cheers from Australia .

आज हम इलेक्ट्रिक और डीजल इंजिन रेलों में यात्रा कर रहे हैं, पर स्टीम इंजन की यात्रा आज भी बहुत ही मजेदार लगती है। ट्रेन यात्रा के समय खिड़की के पास बैठते थे तो कोयले के छोटे-छोटे कण चेहरे और आंखों में पड़ते थे। और इंजन की छुक छुक की आवाज आज भी याद आती है। मैं राजस्थान से हूं उस समय रेतीले टीलों से स्टीम इंजन रेल गुजरती तो मीलों तक छूक छुक की आवाज सुनाई पड़ती थी। आज भी रेल की आवाज का मतलब स्टीम इंजन की छुक छुक छुक लगती है, पर आज के फास्ट टाईम में अब इलेक्ट्रिक और डीजल इंजिन उपयोगी हो गये है।

Good job done by Indian Railways, they should introduce many such heritage steam engine driven trains throughout india for people to understand the Steam engine. This WP class steam locomotive was the most powerful steam engine during the 50s and 60s able to reach spead upto110 kms/hr!

You have tried your level best ! Good 👍 I also had recorded when Railway completed its 150 years on 16 April. I was standing on a huge Railway compound wall between Sion and Kurla, right opposite Swadeshi Mills....it was very crazy !

@ 21:21 is that a WAM or WAG. Its sure not a WAP and definitely not a WCAM. I think it must be a WAM 4 or an even earlier variant. These locos too contributed a big deal towards the success of the Indian railways. My dad was a steam loco driver who transitioned to an electric loco driver and then retired a few years later, he put in a good 35-40 years of service. We used to stay at the SER railway quarters @ Santragachi and then settled @ Kharagpur after his retirement. I get really nostalgic and very emotional when I think of all those years gone by which will never come back again, ever !! Incase you guys are wandering I'm 40+ now ..... so you can do the math and figure my age during that time. I consider myself lucky to have been there and experienced all that. What an amazing video and your style of filming . The WP was my favourite loco although my Dad was a motorman on the metre gauge section of Southern Railway in Madras in the 50s and 60’s . I always loved the steam locos . I love the enthusiasm of the people lining upto see this beautiful loco which was part of our lives . Thank you once again and cheers from Australia .

Excellent Vdo! especially for Senior Citizens like me..,,,*SO NOSTALGIC* THESE WP Engines used to HAUL PASCHIM EXPRESS , FRONTIER MAIL KALKA MAIL, & TOOK ONLY ONE or Little more frm today's Electric Engines ...
