Hi mate! We announced it in our live chat the other day but you might have missed it 😝 We LOVED Sarawak and our trip was far too short- only 4 days and based only in Kuching. We can't wait to return soon so we can visit Sibu, Miri and everywhere in between!! The tribal culture was fascinating and all the food we tried was phenomenal. Couldn't find sago worms though 😭 Maybe next year!! Thanks for watching mate. Cheers, Sheena

When you pointed out that the dish was not halal I was like wow that is something nice to hear. Honestly I have nothing againts non-halal dishes, don't get me wrong, I'd still watch them, but It really shows that you are paying attention to your subscribers and the awareness that you guys have on our diverse culture as a whole is just amazing. You always quickly adapt to our custom on most of your vids. All this small details makes up a huge difference to your reviews in my opinion. Ok enough of that.. Anyway nice vids on sarawak dishes but I know "East Malaysia" (hehe) has loads of dishes that we never even heard of and I hope you could cover that as well... And as always best food review ever. Keep it up, it's almost 15k subscribers. 👍👍👍😋😋

Thanks so much for the kind words Azzrudin Jamil! 😄😄😄😄 It makes us really happy to hear that info like that is appreciated. We loved Sarawak so much and barely scratched the surface on the food front. We really hope we can get back there next year to explore more of the rural areas and to discover more of the unusual and interesting dishes. Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Bring on 20k woo hoo! Cheers, Sheena 😀

You might wanna watch the berpuluh vids they already did on food over at the Peninsular..Come on..like they said, they ones they did on Kuching barely scratched the surface pun...so kasi can la reviews on the Borneo side of the country. I bet most Semenanjung people pun are not well-versed on food from the Borneo side, right? It's gonna be an eye-opener for them (or you?) too :) ..I like the part you said about their attention to the viewers' preference and/or culture. Love watching you because of that too, Sheena and Thomas. Cheers!!

Welcome to my city and I hope you guys enjoyed your stay. Just a little bit correction, the red sauce on the Kolo Mee is actually not chilli sauce, it's Char Siew oil. That is why it doesn't taste spicy but sweet with some porky flavour. I could literally eat 2 to 3 bowls in one sitting. Kuching townsfolk is not a big fan of spicy food, that's why even the Sarawak Laksa has the mildest form of spiciness out of all Laksas in Malaysia.
@ChasingaPlate

Ahhhh Angelus9015- thank you so much for this information!! That makes so much sense now 😀😍 We had the white kolo mee the next day and decided that the red one is our favourite out of the two. They were addictive- like nothing we'd ever tasted!! And that Sarawak laksa- EPIC! I wish we could have stayed for longer as there was so much we didn't get to try! Looking forward to heading back there next year! Thanks for watching and commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena

Notification Squad here... If you ever come back to Kuching, try my uncle's Mee Jawa in Demak Laut. Have the Mee Jawa Special, served with satay and peanut sauce. I'm so sure the Sarawak Tourism Board made a right decision sponsoring both of you to eat Sarawak food in Sarawak's capital. But be assured, as I said before there's a lot of choices in the 12 divisions of Sarawak. You need a month to explore the whole state, really. You must experience Gawai in an Iban Longhouse. I'm waiting for that very video in June.

We will definitely be returning Prince Righty I- and your Uncle's Mee Jawa sounds amazing! Can't wait to try it when we're next in Kuching. +Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel Mee Jawa in sarawak is one of the most popular food just like the laksa n kolo mee. And the difference with other states is apart from being more delicious n authentic they serve with a few sticks of satay. It's a combo. A popular bfast menu, yes satay in the morning (look for it at malay outlets). By the way mee Jawa is one dish you won't be able to find it in Indonesia despite the obvious name. Just like mi bandung n air bandung only in Malaysia. Only for info though I mean well.. :)

Of course you know I had to re-watch your *_Dayang Sarawak Corner_* video first. Very cool that the first two noodle dishes in that video are the first two here as well. The laksas are quite similar but the one today clearly wins for me. The mee kolok in KL and the kolo mee (here) are different but again the local to Sarawak looks the tastiest. The gula apong drinks are a toss up. Ha. Another excellent food day, guys.

Whoow, another stunning video, I've binge-watched alk your videos from last week and every dish is so interesting to watch and delicious to look at, I'm amazed from all the varietys. Specially in your previous video with the 80 different dishes restaurant, I've never seen something like that before even those kind of self serving is common here too, but normally maybe up to 10 dishes. Oh and btw, I'm back from Berlin that means I had my fist Durian :D did found some fresh, super good looking ones at the Asia Market but as I smelled it I did had some worries because the smell was sooo strong, a harsh strong way haha. Did prepared myself to not love it at first bite and maybe have to get familiar with first, but as soon as I tasted it, WOOOOW I felt instant in deep love :D was kinda shocked how delicious it was, so completely different in taste to everything I had before. Unexpected fruity almost like mango, didn't hat to bite it was like a cream, and then this weird and super interesting taste (like a drop of a cooked onion) but can't name it, I think this is what Durian makes it so special... I got addicted

Sarawak has our very own rendition of cendol.. unlike the ones made of rice flour found in other parts of Malaysia, ours is made of tapioca starch. Hence the chewier and more transparent texture. And yes, like others have commented, the dressing for kolo mee is not chilli sauce. It’s the drippings of sweet marination from roasting charsiew

Hi Thomas and Sheena! I've watched your both Sarawak Food Tour in Kuching. It's tempting. There are a few places you should go and eat. Mom's Laksa (laksa Sarawak), Asma Kek Lapis (Kota Samarahan), Mee Brunei (nearby Sarawak museum), Hi Bread, Rojak Kuchei, and so much more. I'm going to Kuching next Thursday, 30th November. Second time for this year. I will visit my friends there every year. If you guys are still there in Kuching we can meet up. Anyway, your video are amazing. Thank you for discovering food in Malaysia. Some of us couldn't get a chance to eat good food from other places in Malaysia, but you guys got the opportunity to taste it. Happy hunting for a good food. If you have a chance go and hunt for a good food in Miri, Sarawak.

Im nearly to the end of this Epic playlist from Malaysia. Obviously l know Malaysia and have lived in KL previously spent loads of time in Malacca and JB (when living in Singapore), but we always had our own Car. Haven't been back since Dec 2012-Jan 2013. Can you tell me how you guys got from State to State across Malaysia. Did you use Public transport (bus/train), Hire a car, fly to some areas?? How did you travel about to cover so many States. I know you had friends Amry and Aida and family that you spent Hari Raya with and also had a fan meet up did they assist your movement. Absolutely loved every single video.👍

Hi Brilliant But Blue, oh my goodness I can’t believe you’re nearly at the end 😝 what a champion! We took the bus a couple of times to Melaka and like you mentioned we travelled to Kelantan with our mates (took 13 hours by car because of the holiday traffic 😝) but towards the end of our time in Malaysia we hired a car and did a massive road trip. It was the best decision ever and so memorable. We just took it day by day and booked places as we went. I loved spending time in the smaller towns and seeing a different side of the country. We pretty much went from top to bottom. Bet you miss the food in Malaysia. Is there anywhere you go in Melbourne to satisfy cravings? We used to go to Mamak in the city often. Cheers, Sheena
@brilliantbutblue
@brilliantbutblue 4 жыл бұрын
Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena: I thought you must have hired a Car, it's certainly the easiest and gives you the best experience not stuck in one place, if you dont like it, move on (the drive can be hectic, the road rules can be questionable😅). I haven't been to Mamak but l know its popular. When eating at Malaysian restaurants in Melbourne l have food regrets. Its not the same experience and feels as eating in SE Asia, and the price point is ridiculous. Unsure what eating Asian is like in NZ (Ive only ever been to Wellington, Wanganui and Lake Taupo, so not exactly Asian Gastronomy). I cook mostly at home, but l do crave Rojak, Nasi Lemak and ANYTHING cooked with Sambal Belacan!! And oh how l dream of Cendol or Sago Gula Melaka (we actually pull off a decent Sago Gula Melaka at home), but Cendol nope nothing beats it in Malaysia! You have managed to capture the "feels" in your videos.👍. Noticed in your Vietnam series now Thomas is doing a bit of a panoramic of the location and it just feels like your right there on the streets of Vietnam!! Well done to you both.
@ChasingaPlate
@ChasingaPlate 4 жыл бұрын
Totally get where you’re coming from on all fronts. There’s nothing like eating a cendol in the heat- rapidly scooping it up before it disappears into a puddle. Omg sooo good! It really wouldn’t be the same eating it in Australia (or NZ). So much about the street food experience is about the environment. Happy you like the panoramic shots- thanks for noticing 😄 Have a lovely weekend Brilliant But Blue! Cheers, Sheena

Have you guys tried umai, a raw fish salad, a specialty from Melanau community in Sarawak? Umai for me is a rustic version of fish carpaccio with extra punch due to the addition of cili padi. I love umai and it's unique to Sarawak alone. Most of Sarawak specialties like Mee Kolok and Laksa Sarawak are quite easily available in KL but I haven't found any stall or restaurant in Peninsular Malaysia that sells umai. Cheers!

+Chasing a Big Plate YUM CHA to both of you. First of all, I stand (sit, and lay down) corrected if I'm wrong on certain aspect as in the following: Teh C Apong/Apung - The word apung should mean floating, but I only find it sedimenting at the bottom of the glass 😀. It’s another name is there layered tea. Normal tips to ordering tea (or some other drinks too) in Malaysia: 1) ‘O’ - Sugar. Normally if in ‘O’ condition, it means no milk, and vice versa. 2) Kosong (Plain) - No sugar. 3) Hot/Panas - Not stirred or shaked (as per James Bond request), and referring to one with milk, the condensed and sweetened milk. 4) Peng/Ais/Iced - As the meaning of word Peng goes, it means cold. 5) C - Using evaporated milk. Not sweet but creamier. Normally drink without addition of sugar. 6) Tarik/Pull - Frothy/foamy tea normally using condensed milk. Hence: Teh ‘O’, Teh Panas, Teh C Kosong, Teh Tarik...Example of varieties of fusion teas: 1) Limau (Lime)/Kasturi (Calamansi). Lemon tea also available. 2) Ginger tea. 3) Teh ‘O’ Laici (Lychee) If you're having problems of high blood pressure and headache due to eatings or durians eg...prepare a glass of hot tea with a sachet of tea bag, smash 2 cloves of garlics and put it in the glass...let it simmered for 10-15 mins...recommended w/o sugar...RM1 probably can get me a glass of Teh 'O'. 😀
