Welcome to Our French Chateau!
We are Amanda and Lincoln. With our two daughters and pets in tow, we moved across the world from our home in San Francisco California to buy and restore a petite chateau on 40 acres in the beautiful French countryside of Brittany.
Our channel documents our triumphs and failures in restoring the 19th-century Chateau de Lingourdy. We plan to return the gardens, cottages and barns to their former glory (on a tight budget) and open them up for events and luxurious stays to the public. So if you're interested in observing daily life through the eyes of an American family whose French language skills are quite lacking and who have amassed a menagerie that includes cats, dogs, and donkeys. As someone who works with a professional female racing car driver, I'm super impressed with your daughter. My driver started in karts at aged 7, had her foot run over often by boy competitors, and parents telling her that she should let their sons win. She is now smashing it! So I'm sending your daughter ALL my encouragement!

Ah, yes! Our chateau was built by the La Moussaye family. They owned many properties in the area and around Brittany.

One of the things I love about living in France (although it is still taking time to get used to) is that really, there’s nothing to do. Everything is closed. So I am trying to get into this rhythm. This pause. This sitting in a swing. This watching the clouds. This writing a poem. This really just listening to music or nothing. Something beautiful can happen. Beyond thé doing. Bees are humming.

I had no idea France had so many different venomous snakes. I was fortunate to have grown up where there aren't any. I didn't develop a fear of them until much later in life. Now I live in Texas where we have copper heads, rattlers and water moccasins. I don't go for walks in the woods here. I do get little grey garden snakes in my yard here, but they're harmless.

For over 60 years, I was in constant motion. When I think about it, I find it hard to believe all the things I used to do, and I enjoyed most of it. I just turned 74 at end of April, and now I sit and read and watch KZfaq videos all day. I am conserving my energy now, so I have it when I decide to go shopping. 😂😅😂 😊

Need to take breaks. You need two balls. The big dog taking control over smaller one😅. As kids we rode our uncle’s Jenny. He was a blacksmith. We loved to watch him work. We put on the saddle and rode around. Then jenny would stop. We would take off the saddle. One carried it. The others pulled him home. Wonderful memories.

I bought a ball with a handle on it for my horse…he wouldn’t touch it. I bought it because he loved throwing his feed pan over the wall. He continued throwing his pan over the wall and watching his neighbor startle. He would chuck the pan and immediately look between the wall boards. It got to the point where people would line up to watch. I’m sure you are wondering why he didn’t eat out of a bucket hung on the wall…he would rip the bucket off the wall and bang it. He is that ass*ole neighbor!!! Love your channel!💗

Snakes.Hmmm.... so much for the romance of walks in the tall grass. Mind you, I leave them alone and they do the same for me. As for your toad, it reminds me of the cane toads we have here in Australia. Hideous poisonous things. Ugh! Days spent relaxing, and enjoying nature are so restorative and good for the soul. Loved this video. The blue sky and green everything was nice to see. Where I live there has been one day in the past two weeks that the sun came out. It is so miserable here. Looks like the feral cat is pretty smart to stay out of the cage.

It's called recharging your battery. I would make that plural but the computer won't let me for the moment - it keeps jumping the cursor to the beginning of the line. Strange. My daughter often had to put a plump horse in a small paddock as a form of diet. Otherwise they can founder apparently. I am a non horse person, but I learnt bits and pieces over the years. You have a lovely place to regain your zen. Best wishes

A lazy Sunday full of sweet nothings, yes please! Watching the boys having so much fun with that ball, I humbly suggest that you look into The Jolly Egg (large for their size) - they will chase and bounce it with glee (no affiliation just a fan) - my 82LB Pitties fave toy.

I always Sunday off as a day of rest and never have trouble vying for that. So I felt guilty coming in from gardening and watching your vlog. It is hard to rest on Sundays.

Enso doesn't run like a 3 legged dog, you can't even tell with his coat! His walk needs a little work if he's looking to hide it though. Personally I think he's perfect! Was that a fox in the grass?

I can't imagine how much work is involved in fixing a chateau that has been left for years, but like all DIY you need time off to wind down and think, take a few days off you will then be ready to pick up and carry on

Sitting still drives me nuts! I can never get my brain to be quiet so I'm a 58 yr. Old who thinks she's 30 when it comes to tasks need doing. If I try to relax, I guilt myself into not doing it lol! Maybe this is a form of OCD , ha ! Don't feel bad you guys, you are not alone in this.😊

Way off topic with my comment, apologies in advance. How long have you been leaving your meadow grass long like that? I love it. It's got to be great for wildlife and wildflower diversity among other things. For me, that look is much more appealing and rustic than lawn. I imagine that if one does a haying or two at the end of the season, there's no danger of woods encroaching on one's meadow?
