Chateau Love | Life in Paris and a French Castle

We really need to get fit, and the days are growing shorter, colder and wetter! Soon we might not be able to walk in our beloved vineyards. Time to take action! A dull basement room gets a complete chateau transformation. Will we have success antique shopping? Did one of us actually buy something "disgusting"? This week there is an incredibly delicious and very unusual "Cheese of the Week". Did you know there is another artist in the house? His talents deserve to be on display!

ABOUT US:
Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 22 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 18 years, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

I do not have a favorite, I love them all, for different reasons. I have visited the beautiful Missouri Botanical Garden many many times. I have seen many beautiful pictures of flowers. You really focus on the tiny details.

I have been taking pictures of flowers for many years, flower as and leaves. However, Simon, yours are spectacular!!! It is really lovely that you have the space to show them so well. Have you ever thought about painting the drop ceiling panels in the art gallery black? You see that in a lot of modern day galleries. It gives the ceiling depth.

I just adored the view you shared on your walk. There is something about a misty morning that seems romantic and intriguing, in a Charlotte Bronte sort of way. In the 70's that gold on your chairs and ottoman was hugely popular and my home was adorned with it. They called it harvest gold in those days and if integrated well with your décor it will be stunning. It will be fun to see your room completed with the drapes and what ever else you are choosing. Simons photos are brilliant! My daughter was into photography when she was younger and actually won a contest with a photo of magnolias in a vase. Thanks for sharing today - it was fun.

I had never heard of black garlic or the cheese you had with it. It looked very tasty. The gym looks beautiful with Simon’s photos. I like the bottom rug in the room with the mustard/gold chairs. Love the gold furniture and the gallery exercise room. The photografphic art is pure reverie. Caution: please make sure the room is well ventilated, so as not to let the humidity ruin the art work. The pool throws off much humidity. Hopefully, leaving door closed will work - not sure.

There's nothing more beautiful than the French countryside--even in the fog & rain. I don't know why. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been to. Love Simon's photos. Vivienne's gold chairs worked out in the room. I like the rug with gold in the middle for that room now, although something with gold, red, and royal blue would be better to match the royal blue for the curtains. I hope the gallery/gym doesn't get too much humidity for the photos, as it's right next to the pool, but it looks good. Enjoyed Simon's hat show (they all looked good!), and his serving dish purchase. The cheese looked intriguing. And I like the theme of bringing the outside in. I've been especially into that lately, being inspired by looking at Moroccan riads on youtube.

I would have made the ceiling higher. The photos are very professional and beautiful artwise. I don't like the frames though I think they need bigger frames and bigger mounts, with deeper incuts. I would get a running machine as well and weights. The footrest I would source the same tassles as the chairs and put that on the footrest. Also you could french paint all three and make them really match.

I love Simon's new roaster. I love the roaster that Vivienne preferred too. It wasn't as practical, but it was really lovely. The hats looked great. The Roman helmet was a hot look. I was waiting for you to put in the breast plate. I actually love the chairs, but I was with Simon when it comes to the ottoman until the reveal. I stand corrected. The risk paid off. I'm so jealous of the gold/mustard yellow chairs and foot cushion! I adore velvet furnishings, but especially in both this and shades of green & orange. Perhaps if you can't bring Simon around to the cushion, Stephanie would buy it to match her chairs in the Winter salon.

That's a vibration plate that was left behind; how lucky! I love mine; it's beneficial for your lymphatic system and has helped tighten my jiggly bits! Also good to jump on after a workout...kind of like a full-body massage. Simon's photos are spectacular works of art!

I think that vibrating belt was left behind for a good reason. Those things were found to do internal damage as well as nerve damage. I’d get rid of that ASAP and replace it with something safer. Love the videos and Simon, you’re a rockstar!
