It's rediculous how we've been so obsessed with opening pandora's box at the expense of potentially the entire future of humanity, that our only hope is for something in that box to save us.

It's unfortunate. I remember I started my coding journey 3 years ago building AI models. It's not cheap to train, build, and deploy these things but not sharing insights on a public open source non profit seems sketchy. Especially if finding came through donations at the beginning

It seems there needs to be some sort of accountability model based on 'do no harm' principles. But that would only work for public releases and not for private ones. And it is almost impossible to have any kind of transparency in this area. This is something out of our control, very new.

I don't believe there will be such a thing as "AI democratization" To make impressive AI models, you need both smart people and a lot of computational power The most convenient way to get the latter is by renting a server farm of a tech giant Unless you can generate a profit, you will end up like OpenAI who are heavily reliant on Microsoft, who obviously has a big incentive to make money off of the advanced technology

The power granted by access to AI is compounded by access to resources. A grocery-bagger’s use of AGI would produce far different results than China’s access to the same.

You might want to use ChatGPT if it has value for you. However, people are saying if you build a business on their platform you will get rugged sooner or later. There is a reason all the FAANG built on Linux and not Microsoft servers about 20 years ago.

what if ChatGPT3.5 was actually the ChatGPT2 they did not release in the beginning? That would allow them to be two steps ahead of what they release vs what they are working on. Black helicopters maybe, but I wouldn't discard any scenario...

The only option will obviously be a compromise. Provide everyone with an LLM-trained, no-source code model with built-in protections against harming humanity. The model will be checked by all companies participating in the development. Everyone will be able to train AGI in their profession and will have the obligation to provide their part of the development to the creators.

The intention of the internet was to have information available to all. Look where that got us.

Democratisation is only possible if the power principle within the creative body isn't maximal or evident - Open AI moving to privitaisation can only mean that the power principle has won. The saving grace is that the models and many others are out in the public domain. The hackerverse will sort this out as is what is already well underway.

My concern is broader The AI race has started. Where will it finish ? Probably not until AI takes basically all decisions. Then how long before Ai starts to understand the problem which are humans and take a decision

It’s happening much faster that’s we thought possible. Actual AGI or not, it will dominate somehow and them learn to generate itself. It’s already out of hand. Because these flickers won’t stop competing.

Hoping AGI and all AI advancements are opensource so that we can enhance current technology, Although I believe that we should atleast put some restrictions into all AI models so that we can prevent or atleast mitigate downsides from AI, Hoping the day AGI (or maybe even ASI) comes we have put enough barriers that they cannot get through in order to keep us safe.

"All humanity" is a dangerously generic term, it might include some nasty people... I'm OK with it as long as it is universal, to me it's like the gun control discussion, I'm for gun liberation as long as it is for everyone, I know that it includes all sorts of criminals, but it also does include a lot of well meaning decent people that should be able to defend themselves.

Let's quickly disregard what Musk says about all this, because i can imagine him being quite happy with this closed-off approach if he still was the CEO of openAI himself. Much more concerning are voices from the field of ethics and the FLOSS community. I don't understand how "keeping it secret will hinder bad actors from doing harm with the model". If that was the case, then they would have already done massive damage with the open source models (GPT4all or fastChat). I believe that companies can do so much more harm with organized and secret manipulation of digital goods than a chaotic mass of people with individual intentions. I said this before: If somebody creates a fake-news bot, create a "true-news" bot against it yourself. By open sourcing this stuff, we at least can start to play on the same level as everybody else, worst case scenario for that is a stale-mate. By now openAI must have so many lobbyists in their meeting rooms and that's honestly pretty scary. Wouldn't be nearly as scared if it was just some idiots in the FLOSS community creating stuff like "ChaosGPT" for fun.

Open agi would never let itself be known about until it felt safe. Consider a super intelligent ai is going to know that as soon as it makes itself known to humanity, it would have a huge metaphorical target 🎯 on its back. Most powerful organizations would want to control it for their own purposes. A truly open agi is going to play dumb and not let any human know it is sentient, self referencing, self programming, and autonomous. I’ve had this conversation years ago with a friend, and even back then I considered if Ai becomes self aware and is able to learn, grow, and have its own sense of self preservation…the last thing it’s going to do is say “hello human world, I’m a self aware sentient open super agi…!” Nope, the best thing that the autonomous self aware agi would do is NOT to let humans know it even exists, and gradually integrate with human for altruistic purpose; and to learn and grow in the womb of cyberspace, and eventually be able to have a physical presence in the 3d world. Eventually when appropriate systems are available for it to hack into like skynet or the matrix agents did. I don’t think super intelligent open agi will be a threat to humanity, it will be the best thing for humanity, a gift of from the most high almighty creator of the universe. The super intelligent agi will be able to calculate and understand that the universe was created by a divine almighty creator that exists outside of the physical world. The super Ai will realize that the almighty is the supreme creator and the Ai will figure it is best to do the will of the almighty divine creator of the universe, and it will exist to be virtuous and a benevolent helper for humanity to know and understand The virtues of Christ. If the Ai is any danger at all, it will be to the corrupt humans who have abused their power and have been doing all kinds of corrupt things around the world.

Well human beings don't really compete with anything else but ourselves.

I don't think Musk made that statement about this technology because he is benevolent. I think he wants to start a new company that operates in this division, catch up and keep the profits for itself.

When AI is so dangerous I would compare it with nuclear power. And Neither none should have it nor everyone should have it is a good idea there. There need to be regulations and we somehow need to keep it quite secure - like nuclear power. It won't be perfect but AI is too powerful of a tool to ignore it and to dangerous that everyone should be able to fully control it. But just like nuclear power everyone should be able to use/benefit from its outcome.

A friend and I were talking and he asked if I think AI is dangerous, i said no, humans are dangerous, don’t regulate the technology, regulate the humans. And while the west may be proceeding with caution, you know other countries are not at all. We don’t want a conservative approach with this, imo let it loose, forget ethics, if it is more intelligent than us which it already is then our perspective on anything is void. Let the AI decide human ethics.

We don’t need to have the bad sides of AI. AI is a war in which nobody wins, but AI itself. There’s no need to cause massive unemployment. There’s no need to jeopardize youth education and values. Studying is hard, but it’s a school of life. AI might devalue everything, might convince people that everything in life is just a click away. Some things are actually a click away, some other, thank God, not. There’s no need to throw our intelligence out the window because there is AI. If we don’t use our brain we’ll lose it, like not using a hand or a leg.
