I hear you. I've had mine about 20 years. Regular wood processing and camping. Black coating has taken a beating (who cares - I could strip it if I could be bothered) and the handles are a bit scratched up but the blade just keeps going with basic maintenance. Made to be batoned. Have a great day.

Sounds like a Camillus Becker Campanion Y'all have if it was 20 years ago at "around $50;" I believe the lowest Camillus Becker went was $60, as was mine (but there could have been sale prices back then.) Different Steel then for that Model, 50-100-B, a Ball Bearing Steel, and a more usable 3/16" thickness instead of Kabar's later, thicker 1/4" 1095 Cro-Van. I handmade Green G-10 handles for mine with an integral 4-line Paracord D-Guard & tiger-striped the coating by selective sanding so it looks Unique & user friendly; but the most important point is that after 20+ Years, it's still kicking in wood/kindling processing. Yep. I Don't think we're alone in that. There's a Lot of those that were sold back then, and I Love to hear when they're still going Strong. Huge Bang for Little Buck$ 🔪

BK2 is the closest to "one tool only" perfection as you can get. that being said, add: silky bigboy, stainless cookpot, spetsnaz shovel, and smaller companion blade for a very competant kit.

@realbroggo
@realbroggo Жыл бұрын
Agree. The BK2 is a heavy beast and not really suited for utility work - edge is just too thick. It's designed for hard work where you risk snapping the blade (eg. batoning wood). Laser Strike is built for utility work. Can't quite take the beating of the BK2 but is lighter and more nimble in hand. Great hiking & camping fixed blade. Have a great day.

I have the the Becker BK10, basically a .19 version with a thumb ramp on the spine of the BK2. As a survival knife and for an always there no matter what it goes through I would say it is the one I would choose. Size and weight for what you get it is again the choice. The price is not bad for a quality knife.

The gso is a far better but also much more expensive knife. The Becker bk2 is the ultimate knife to throw shit at without having to care too much. The gso 6 is a very high quality survival knife which is more suitable for finer tasks as well. For the price it's hard to say but without considering price the gso 6 is far superior

"BEST" would certainly entertain endless BS. That said... Glad to see you keeping this knife in your collection and in up to date videos. Here at Alaska Raft Connection... BK-2 is the de facto 'honorable mention' knife selection in overbuild category of bushcraft & survival happy-medium. Cross-bred / Jack of all trades... BK-2 'for me' befits lineages to escape/evasion with ingress/egress designs in mind; to having the rugged multi-task, utility camp/field-knife. If I recall before KABAR was in the mix, there was a serrated version for USA military Spec. Ops. As far as relevance to my use... Comfortable, capable, dependable (within reason), relatively compact (still handy with good ergos) knife still offered at a very fair-minded value to cost ratio. My guide/outfitter discounts for BK-2 runs about $85 USD. I think you DBK-guys are right on the money around $100 asking. The 'Micarta' handles (costing extra) is the way to go for all-seasons use vs. the hard, un-textured plastic... especially in freeze/thaw to snow/ice conditions.

@@Freakmaster480- How or Why would making a BK2 in a high end Steel be "a glorious waste...?" I'm not tracking on that... If a BK2 is considered the best, or one of the best, Survival Knife/s, then what waste would there be? I Share your sentiment, tho: I'd like to see it too. 🔪

@@edge-climber8540 Firstly, I think a steel upgrade would be fine, but I think super steels would not be great for the bk2. Something like 14c28n would make a fantastic upgrade to the 1095 crovan used now. Secondly, the bk2 has the cutting geometry of a brick. It is a crobar with an edge. The wider your cutting geometry the more you are going to limit the benefits of the high edge retention that defines super steels. Thirdly, the bk2 is mostly famed for being a functionally unbreakable knife that was at one time quite affordable. Super steels generally trade some toughness for their edge retention making the blade less durable and on top of that the price of the knife would become super high to partially to materisl costs but mostly due to machining and tooling costs. Fourthly, there are better platforms, even within the beker line of knives, for a steel upgrade. I would kill for a magnacut bk16.
