I am watching this a year later and it took me back to my rooky years as a Financial Advisor. What Thsndekile is saying is management decisions and how they shape Financial Advisory and the manner of advice-giving which has dire consequences on the client's finance and life is really sad. It is truly amazing what you guys are doing out here. Absolutely love it

Another issue, from the financial planner perspective. A proper financial planner makes their client aware of ALL potential financial risks related to protecting the client's income, for example, waaaay in advance of anything happening. Based on the risks identified from analyzing the client's financial situation, the adviser recommends solutions such as an income protector, savings, etc, for example. It's the client's choice to accept or reject recommended solutions. Despite us providing wholistic financial planning for clients, they still choose which solutions to implement. If they choose to implement only one of the recommendations, we make them aware that they are subjecting themselves to future financial risks. And apart from educating the client, we can't force them to implement all the solutions that they need. And that's usually the same client that comes back and gets upset when their policy/cover does not payout for a particular circumstance.

🤔🤔🤔 still thinking out loud about this, but for many obvious business interests reasons its only fair for Liberty to suspend new intakes in this point in time. However i think the reality question here is “Are insurance house products really in the interest of the beneficiary?”

That’s the important question considering that their entire model is built on people’s risk

Insurance /covers and protections work like stokvels so if we haven't raised enough money whereby they can't make a profit it start being unsustainable. Also the clauses always put me off, you'll only know you are not covered when you claim and actually think you have a "umbrella" but the "umbrella" has so many t's and c' s.

There is a massive problem with individuals complaining that they don't know where to put their money when the same individuals are trying to advise themselves... Trying to cut out the financial advisory professional entirely. It's like trying to medically diagnose and write a prescription for your illness, yourself, without visiting the doctor. And look, when you visit the doctor, you pay first, before you even get a chance to see the Doc. You don't tell the doctor that you won't pay until the medicine works, do you? There's a fundamental problem with individuals badmouthing the "adviser" as a "non-professional" in the first place. You wouldn't try to cut out the lawyer in the courtroom. You wouldn't try to cut out the doctor in the hospital and do your own surgery. You wouldn't try to cut out the accountant who does your books and do them yourself.. Or the marketing specialist who runs the marketing for your business. But for whatever reason, we think that we can cut out the financial planner, who spends years studying and hundreds of hours a year training to remain upto date so that they can provide a professional service to the client. I spend upto 60 working hours over several months analyzing a client's portfolio to make appropriate recommendations. And that's just the initial analysis. Portfolios need to be rebalanced each year. And other adhoc things that need to be done throughout the year? Tax planning? Risk management? Estate planning? Emigration planning? Offshore investment planning? Legacy planning? Are you gonna cut out the so called "middle man" from all this and do it yourself? Good luck with that.

Agreed with you. Maybe financial advisors must also take the profession seriously and not bring it into disrepute by being glorified sales people

There’s a pretty good reason why there are clear legislation that state that we need to disclose fully upon the client on what they signing up for and more importantly only recommend a product after a full fna (financial Needs Analysis) have been done for that particular client .As financial advisors we do not sell products instead we rander advice according to your personal financial need to meet your financial goals or security. Though there are those who come to it in a sales perspective hence it is a commission based platform....not saying much 🤐 but I myself would rather have few quality clients who are happy with my services than a bunch of unpleasant ones confused and ready to cancel my services with them. So I totally agree with you Nicolette we really should be more professional about it and apply the tcf method.

Setswana sa re ditlamelwana tsa pula di bakanyetswa go sale gale. according to my understanding it doesn’t make business sense to sell income protection product at this point in time. Hence when you take a medical aid there’s a waiting period if you have existing chronic conditions even with life policies it’s either an existing condition will spike up your premiums or there’ll be a waiting period.
