Today we're fishing a place I drive past all the time usually on my way to go fish somewhere else. That place is the Chattahoochee River near Atlanta, GA. I hope you like the video and as always...THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

IMPORTANT INFO about this section of the Chattahoochee River:
1. You need a trout stamp and a GA fishing license to fish the Chattahoochee River between Buford Dam and the mouth of Peachtree Creek. Even if you're fishing for bass.
2. Morgan Falls Dam does not have a water release schedule. They have to manage whatever water they receive from Buford Dam. So if you want to know if there's going to be a release below Morgan Falls Dam you have to call Buford Dam (770-945-1466) to find out if/when there's going to be a release. It takes 12 hours for a release at Buford Dam to get to Morgan Falls Dam. You can also check the USGS gage(s) to monitor or check for a release from Buford Dam.
3. This is the Delayed Harvest Section so during the Delayed Harvest Season (November 1st - May 14th) anglers can only use and possess lures with one single hook per lure.
4. In the summer I want to warn anglers that they rent tubes, rafts, and kayaks at Powers Island so you want to get off the water by 10 or 11AM on weekends. The section from Powers Island to Paces Mill is really bad. If you want to fish on the weekend I'd fish between Morgan Falls Dam and Johnson Ferry or anywhere below Paces Mill.

Great video man! Learning a ton from you! Marshal told me that you were the most knowledgeable fisherman he'd ever met. He wasnt lying! Would love to get out there with you one day! I was telling marshal I wanted to complete the slam when we made our shoalie video! I am obsessed with these river bass man. So much more fun than ponds or lakes.

Good video man. Looks like the smallmouth in the area are pretty depleted like you were saying. Especially if they’ve stocked 250,000 shoalies.

@@dysisjoel I'm not aware of any books but when Williams & Burgess described the Shoal Bass (1999) they pretty much summarized all nonnative introductions in the ACF drainage up to 1999. Spotted Bass were first documented above the Fall Line in Bartletts Ferry Lake in 1968. They started showing up in West Point around 1990 and spread upriver from there. Alabama Bass were first documented in Lake Lanier around 1970. Alabama Bass were first documented below Buford Dam in 1984. Alabama Bass and Spotted Bass have been mixing below Morgan Falls for about 30 years. The Smallmouth were introduced around 20 years ago.

@@ShoalBandit noted. I just did a 2 day trip to the taccoa, tallapoosa, etowah and Chattahoochee and had no luck. I did catch a Chattahoochee bass, or so it seemed at wildcat campground but it was much to small. I’ll send you an email I appreciate it.

Wow you hit almost every major drainage in north GA (except the Altamaha and Savannah). BTW Wildcat Campground is in the Coosa drainage so that would've been a Redeye Bass (Micropterus coosae). @@TismFishing

I watch tons of KZfaq fishing content. Yours it at the very top. The information alone is enough, but to mix it in with the fishing and catching makes these really enjoyable to watch. @ 9minutes you are talking about flooding the existing mix with shoalie fry. Sounds like similar to the way Texas helped bring Guad numbers up after the mess with their hybrids. Are there any places in Georgia where they have tried that with any ofvthe redeye species? Thanks for the videos.

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a great comment I really appreciate it! That's called 'saturation stocking' and it did work in Texas. The Guad is the Texas State Fish, so I think TPWD really made that a priority. They were also able to take advantage of a drought situation and removed some fish with electrofishing equipment. As far as I know saturation stocking has not been tried in Georgia. It'd probably work as long as you had some kind of natural or manmade barrier to keep nonnative species out.

I can only imagine how psychotic a Shoal smallmouth hybrid would be.

That's a pretty common misconception when it comes to hybrid black bass (IMO). I've found that real native Smallmouth definitely jump more while Shoal Bass are the largest stream specialist in the Micropterus genus. Anglers catch Shoal Bass in the 6-8 lb range every year while Shoal x Smallmouth hybrids struggle to reach weights half that size in the same drainage.

@@aaronforesman7509 Yes I've paddled/dragged up to Island Ford from Roswell Underpass Park. At that point the river starts to turn into an artificial coldwater fishery, so I've never done that well bass fishing. I was farther downriver so I did not put in at Johnson Ferry. If you're doing a solo trip to that part of the river, you should always paddle/drag up from the launch/access point. That way if you get caught out there during a release you can get back.

I do both it really depends on the area, access available, and if there's another angler, outfitter, etc... to run a shuttle.

Yes, you have mostly 'Spotted Bass' and Largemouth Bass in that part of the river but some of the larger tributaries have Shoal Bass and Chattahoochee Bass.

@@E.P.7131 Great question. l learned Pre-Internet reading Bassmaster and other magazines, watching Bill Dance, Roland Martin, etc... When I was old enough I joined a bass club. But anglers are learning much faster today with the Internet and search engines like Google. The best resource IMHO is KZfaq. BTW most anglers start out fishing creeks and then move up to rivers. You'll learn much faster that way because you're fishing a smaller body of water and you'll be able to see the fish-holding areas in greater detail when the water is clear. You'll learn how and why fish relate to different types of cover and the current and sometimes you can even see the fish. You'll also be able to retrieve some of your lures in the creeks because they're not as deep. The only thing about the creeks in your area is that most homeowners don't like people walking/wading in their backyards so you may want to avoid sections with lots of houses.
