I wanted to say thank you for your stream. I just kind of wanted to watch people freak out about this half-season of bridgerton. There's really been something in this season, maybe it's partially the way it's coming out in two parts, that had me really gripped by the story and I think listening to you and being able to interact with you, and another season 1 and season 2 analysis I watched of Colin and Penelope's relationship really helped me feel fully fed on the first half of the season. So I can move on with my life and stop wasting so much time thinking about it 😂😂😂😂❤❤

I noticed a tiny moment that I found really cute: In ep4 when John comes to call on Francesca and when when she sheepishly explains to Violet that they sort of met already she's kind of nervously fiddling with the RING FINGER ON HER LEFT HAND! She's so cute I can't :)

Does anyone else think that lawyer and widow lady are up to something nefarious? What are the odds that there is only ONE lawyer is in 3 side plots? Same lawyer gave the mondridges the inheritance, threatened the featherington succession, and the widow called him HER lawyer. But ihaven5 seen anyone say anything about it.

10:04 yes! I swear you can only find romance stories as the side plot of other stories UNLESS it’s a rom-com the likes of which I’ve never truly found funny. All I can think is they’re trying to tangentially appeal to men who are “being forced” to watch the films with their female partners. Like look boys! It’s romance sureeee but it’s funny! Haha! Let’s be super fatphobic is a bulk of them! Fun! I digress. I swear bridgerton is the only current show I can think of that I would classify STRICTLY as a romance. Like yeah fantasy-adjacent with the… what shall we call it? Bridgertonfication of the era? But the bulk is the romance not the world building. Romance is such a popular genre appearing alongside every other genre ever yet to make something strictly romance is somehow lesser. Because sexism! Women liking something makes it inferior. Lovely. I’m a romance author can you tell I’m salty 😂 I need more shows I can enjoy as just romance. Bridgerton has some goofy silly romance vibes but also serious moments and it’s fun! Can we PLEASE just have fun romance and NOT another rom-com Ope! Just remembered Heartstopper which I would say is primarily a romance although it’s also coming of age. Two shows… great 😂 and everyone loves heartstopper!! More networks need to get on this. Or I need to get better at finding shows that exist. If you know of another romance show please lmk! (Also totally ignoring kdramas here they always hit the romance is always top notch but I’d like some western portrayals as well! Kdramas are a bit of a culture shock sometimes)

I just wanted to say that upon our Jane Austen Emma nod it just dawned on the similarity between the character Emma and Eloise . Both having strong opinions about the society and people around them. Needing mirrors 🪞 characters such as Penelope in season 2, Cressida in season 3 , and for Emma her love ❤️ interest. It was just a thought 💭 highly opinionated and educated women from a very high class background social perspective which would not only not be the norm but to some slightly elitst. I’m not saying it as a negative or positive character traits either way. Just that both have well intentioned thoughts that may come out differently in their actions and give them surprising reactions and results. It was just a thought

Thank you so much for your amazing Bridgerton recaps, Melody! While I know that some of Colin's behavior has been polarizing for people, I actually enjoyed the fact that he was flirting with the entire ton and was seen as a very eligible bachelor. Even though he could choose to spend his time with anyone, he missed Penelope so much that he felt the need to offer the lessons. He could have also courted anyone he liked, but the way that he chose Penelope felt so sweet and beautiful. And, while Colin falling in love did feel fast, I felt the love finally bloomed or was brought out of the shadows (to use an episode reference) as opposed to just randomly happening as it does in some other movies and television shows.

I'm so bummed I missed this discussion.. Hope there will be more 😊 I had a question for the book lovers of bridgerton? What is the last mention of Portia featherington in the books? I enjoy her character so much and I'm not sure I'm supposed to? Lol But since the show is going in a different direction sometimes, would the idea of Varley and Portia becoming a couple be completely preposterous? Does she have a happy ending?

Very much enjoyed this live stream, thank you! I don't want Lady Danbury to take the fall for Penelope as LW, although that would make for some major drama for these two for the next season. What I would LOVE LOVE LOVE is for Penelope to get a Spartacus moment, at a ball, where Queen Charlotte unmasks her as LW. I want her to see Danbury, all the Featheringtons, Cressida, and especially Colin and Eloise come forward and proclaim "No, I am Lady Whistledown!" so Penelope will know how much she is LOVED. And FORGIVEN. She deserves that.

Thank you for the stream! I'm a newbie here but I wanted to share my thoughts. I haven't read the books, so I'm a Netflix show only girl but I thought it was interesting to hear about how Benedict tries to force Sophie in the books a bit. I feel like with Lady Tilly they kind of introduce a character, a woman, who denied him things he is used from society and the usual ladies. Which might point to that things with Sophie will turn out different because he was introduced to a different view on women and their way of voicing their needs and wishes? But I could be wrong with that. As for Debling: I'm probably in the minority because I actually don't think he is a good or at least nice guy. It's one thing to be awkward and open about it and at least transparent about what prospective to have in marriage with him but I think he wanted more of a housekeeper while he is away or worse a wife who gives him an heir in case he doesn't return. And to say that Penelope went in with similar expectation, e.g. independence, freedom from mother and sisters. I think her asking Debling if there could be love one day put them on a different footing. And just because he is honest about it not being possible (or unlikely possible) doesn't make him a good man. He should self-check if he really needs a wife and if it's fair to expect loyality from her when he does (god knows what) while travelling to the Antarctica. The only thing I give him credit for (even though with "help" from Cressida) is that he clocked in on what's going on between Penelope and Colin and ended it without bad feelings.
