Che MERAVIGLIA!!!!! Giuseppe di Stefano è stato uno dei pochi Grandi a prolungare la carriera fino quasi alla fine della sua esistenza. I concerti, alcuni dei quali con esiti trionfali (in particolare a Milano e Roma) si protrassero fino agli anni ’90...Grazie per questa bellissima perla!!!!

The first version of his i ever heard when I was about 13 years old. Nothing like it, still evokes the same longing, hopeful, heart wrenching sensations .

Conocí a éste tenor, una voz natural y hermosa. Facultades muy especiales para esta ópera.me autografio la ópera lucia de la mermour. Muy amable y gentil. Ésto fué gracias al maestro Juan José Arias Alvarado y Juan José Arias Jr en casa lam en CD de México. Un recuerdo muy especial. Ese día, llevamos una colección de sus óperas y otras figuras de la ópera, y quedo muy sorprendido por el material discográfico que llevamos. Híjole yá pasó algo de tiempo. Franco corelli, René kollo y Distefano, los tres intérpretes de esta aria qué más me gustan.

Una registrazione impressionante! Il timbro,la pasta ammaliante,la freschezza e l'approccio appassionato e musicale di questa voce aumentano il dispiacere per il cambio di repertorio degli anni successivi,la vita un po' sregolata ( il fumo ) ,tutto quello che ha appesantito quel dono mirabile. Comunque fino agli anni 57 è stato veramente l'unico!!!

ll fumo è il passaggio a un repertorio non adatto alla sua voce, sono stati micidiali. Un vero peccato!

Di Stefano's interpretations are always impressive. But here, he sings a D-flat instead of a high C! was the speed recording correct?

Yes, you are absolutely right. The tape has been sped up such that the climactic high C is in fact, a D-flat. The question remains, what note did DiStefano actually sing? As there is no way of knowing just how much the tap speed had been altered, there is no way of knowing what the original key was.

eoselan7 Almost certainly a high C. If the recording were pitched up a whole step, the voice would be almost unrecognizable. This is the second earliest recording of him in this aria I’ve ever heard (the earliest being in 1944), and I know he consistently sang the aria in-key from 1949 to 1959, so this is probably also in-key. Additionally, he covers some of the what-would-be-Gs here, and since he didn’t really like covering F#s, it makes it all the more likely he sang this in Ab and not in G.

Segur que al 1948 el fantastic Giuseppe di Stefano podria cantar el Che gelida manina al to original ( dins de tots els canvis de diapason que hi ha hagut en tota l'Historia) pero evidenment no cantant el do natural mig to més alt, es tota la gravació que esta 1/2 to alta.
