► EMOTIVA TA1 REVIEW
I’ve been a fan of affordable integrated amps ever since I bought my first NAD320BEE years ago. The new Emotiva TA1 stereo integrated amplifier has just about everything you could want in a budget hifi setup. If you’re shopping for a cheap amp with DAC, the BasX TA1 is a solid choice. It could be among the better if not best amplifier for Polk speakers. The TA1 is great if you need a cheap amp for a turntable or if you need a cheap amplifier with built in DAC. Will the Emotiva TA1 amplifier be better than NAD amplifier we reviewed recently? Watch & find out!

Hey Andrew I've got a question for you! What is the downside to running a line converter on a receiver that doesn't have pre outs? Is this possible to do and still have a great sound with an amplifier? Thanks Andrew and Kristi 😁
@andrewrobinsonreviews
@andrewrobinsonreviews 2 жыл бұрын
@Nicholas Jarrett I have never done anything remotely like that so I cannot comment. TBH, I'm not even 100% sure what you are asking when say "line converter".
@movie_av_impulse
@movie_av_impulse 2 жыл бұрын
@@andrewrobinsonreviews so a line converter is you use the speaker connection from your receiver that converts to into an rca Jax out conversion. Which in turn you plug the rca Jax into the amplifier. Which in turn the speakers run off the amplifier. It's a trick my dad told me years ago but I'm no longer in contact with him. He was the only real audio/video guy that got me into my Obsession with being an Audioholic myself 😆..

I just purchased this unit and I am very happy with it. It does everything that I need it to do and it does it well. Setup was easy and the unit was delivered in 3 days to my door. Manual is easy to use and made so you do not need a magnifying glass to read it (big bonus to those of us who have worn glasses for 43 years). The display is a very bright blue and could be an issue as stated in the review. It does not bother me due to it being in my den near my computer that is lit up with rgb unicorn puke lighting. This is an exceptional value and sounds top notch. Great review it helped me to make up my mind.

I always look forward to your reviews - thank you both for doing such a great job with these! I laughed out loud on this one, as you mentioned your past affection for the NAD 320BEE... I still have that exact model, but haven't used it in years (along with the NAD C270 2-channel amp). Coincidentally, I'm in the process of looking for an upgrade/replacement for my old Rotel 5.1 receiver, and planning to pull the NAD out of "retirement" for use temporarily, while I shop around. Yes, I've been living in the past for a long time LOL! I'm now looking to modernize and simplify - Hoping 2-channel with the right setup will also work for movie/TV watching without losing the dialog.... Some of your past reviews have me interested in the Naim Unity Atom, and Musical Fidelity M5si. Thought I would start with my old NAD integrated before pulling the trigger on something new. Anyway - I just wanted to share this, since you mentioned the same amp I'm about to start using again! Thought it was a nice coincidence. Thanks again for all your videos - I love the content and the way you do them!

I have the Emotiva XDA-2 USB DAC. Love it. It is a full size stereo component. And matches my old school McIntosh 2-channel system. It’s blue lights are similar to the McIntosh and my Furman Elite power source. The Emotiva serves as a the USB DAC for my dedicated MacBook music server. Speakers are Polk SDA SRS which I bought in 1987. 180 pounds each, 62 inches tall. 15 inch sub base radiator, 8 midrange and 4 tweeters per speaker. Works for me. Great review.

Hi Andrew and Christi. Another great review. For your question of the day, I’m in love with the emotive ta100. I have it paired with the Klipsch heresy 4s and love the combination. As you know, the Hersey’s are forward, but I didn’t find the ta100 to be too bright as I did when Heresy ‘s were paired with a Yamaha. As a matter of fact, I Love it so much, I ordered the new separate pre amp and power amp BasX line. The ta100 replaced a Denon which replaced a Yamaha which replaced a Onkyo.

My fav integrated...Loxjie A30. Powerful Class-D amp product that doesn't sound like a Class-D product. Detailed power and transparency without harshness. Full set of in/outputs. It drives a pair of Emotiva B1+ speakers very well in a near-field arraignment. Very decent sound for under $200. Nice remote as well. This has a small footprint which is great for desktop use. The size of the TA-1 is what ruled it out for my application but I like the specs.

In regards to the looks factor / new style, it would be interesting to see what a simple thing like offering it in a silver faceplate would look like? It would be a huge aesthetic change, in my opinion, without needing to spend a lot of time and money for R&D in coming out with a new look by changing the physical size / geometry.

If you are reviewing something I really care about, I listen to the entire review. If I could care less about the product (like $500 integrated) I listen for the first minute. Then I scrub to Kristi’s part. It’s not that I value her technical perspective more. Rather, she says things you wouldn’t say, that my wife might care about. So, I really learn and appreciate that. Like today…I’d buy the Cambridge because it looks better and the emotive is dated. I really really appreciate that. I finally finally got my wife to let me place the speakers in the living room where they sound the best. After 36 years! It took open heart surgery (mine) to accomplish that, but now she doesn’t mind! So, thanks for having the very special combo perspective that you provide

You two are the best! I'm still leaning to the A11 Tribute. Do you think most of the A11 Tribute 'magic' lies in its circuitry/pre amp, or amplifier section? Do you think the Tribute's enhancements are mostly defeated if I were to use a separate amp instead like an Emotiva Basx?

Thanks for the great review. I have a Cambridge Audio AXR100 powering Wharfdale Lintons 85 Heritage speakers for my Fluance RT85 2m blue turntable. I was wondering if it would be an upgrade to try the Emotiva T1A or even T2A, but aside from phonic preference, it does not sound like its worth the swap, unless the T2A would be much better due to extra power or different phono Soundstage? Cheers

Would Kanto Tuk speakers benefit from an amplifier like this? I know they have their own built-in amp, but I don't think I'm bringing out their full potential. I'm connecting optical from the TV and RCA from Cambridge Audio Alva TT and they just don't fill the room (regular master bedroom) at the highest volume. Or is that just all I can expect from a bookshelf speaker and I should look into something more powerful in the first place?

you mention the possibility to connect more than 1 subs to this Amp So I'm curious how I see a single 90Hz LP SUb out at the back and streo with HP of 90Hz a full stereo RCA out and ofcourse the driven Speaker outputs are the full stereo RCA and the Speaker outs active at the same time? since this would be the only way i can think of how to connect 2 subs (in stereo) and 2 Fronts at the same time witghout loosing the possibility to get the fronts down to 60/70Hz generally - what amps do you know that have the possibility to drive 2 subs stereo? I see a lot of receivers and Stero amps that have 2 sub outs - but those are either mono outs or just duplex the same signal or are for a front and a rear sub Seems to me that if you want a 2.2 setup with both subs in front under the fronts I need to go with hypex FA251 active ones instead of using my Yamaha MX630 because I can not get propper outputs from an Receiver or amp

Great video, I really like Emotiva products, so I'm curious about this one. I would love to see you review the PT1 by itself, and try this amp with Emotiva speakers, as they are usually voiced pretty neutral. Also, give the guys some slack. Emotiva at its core is a hometheater brand, aka sturdy, black, in the rack, so they tend to keep it simple.

I heartily second your opinion of the phono stage in this integrated. It's almost scary good, at any price. Superby detailed and well-balanced, no noise at all on the MM setting (tried it with an Ortofon OM Super 200 and an A-T VM540ML). For only a 50-watt rating, the TA1 makes my power-hungry Polk RTi-A9's really open up. With the ELAC Debut F6.2's, the phono playback is almost holographic, a term I always sneered at until now. As noted, the forwardness is a bit much, and the bass, while great on the deep end, is not even across the spectrum. But it's a steal at $549, compared to any of its competition with similar features. Will I keep it? Maybe, or maybe will swap it out for the PA1 and get a standalone amp.

Based on your assessment of the BasX TA1 paired with the Lumina, I am not sure it’s the best solution. What do you think? I really enjoy your vids. I especially like the back and forth opinions between Andrew and Kristi. Have y’all explored raspberry pi/Volumio streaming solutions? The set up is fairly straightforward, the flexibility is amazing, and the value is staggering. Plus it offers an easy way to get Tidal connect to any system in the house(yes you have to subscribe to the service to get Tidal Commect but it’s far cheaper than an option like Rune). For the QOTD, I absolutely love my Reisong Yu Lu M2 from China HiFi. At just over $200 shipped it runs circles around either Marantz receiver and is on par with my aged Jolida 202a. At 8watts and just two inputs, it might not be for everyone, but in my room and with my speakers, it slays.

I was thinking...if it brings a laid back speaker more forward, what would it sound like with those big hunkin Klipsch spks. (the model escapes me at the moment). As far as the QOTD- The NAD 317 or 319, as long as they are within original specs. It's A/B, so there's that, but, the dynamics from these models, pre- BEE era, are very impressive. With my listening tastes, harder rock and roll, things can get to stadium levels of volume and still sound extremely well. Great review, to you both.

I just got the TA1 today and have been playing with it. I don't have the experienced ear that you have, but I actually had to slightly boost the treble and bass for my gr research mtm encores. I actually hated it at the stock settings. I was pleasantly surprised how loud it can get, I was worried that it wouldn't have enough power, but I don't think that's an issue. This maybe do to the fact that everything under 90hz is going to a powered sub. I don't hear the hiss and hum that you speak of at all. I kinda like the way it looks, sorry Kristi. I do think that the DAC is lacking, but I wasn't expecting magic there, but it's good enough for now. I'm kind of curious how good the amp can sound with a schiit modius or a Bifrost hooked to it.
