Your suggestions are always spot on. You are the most understandable and concise AV commentator on KZfaq. Even in a living room media room situation, a large flat panel benefits from being placed against a dark colored wall and having dark carpeting in the room. It makes the brightness of the screen pop and intensifies the quality of the image. You are so right about reflective surfaces too. Even fabric, tapestries or canvas paintings on the side walls can help in a non theater media room. Having light sources behind the screen, to the side or away from the screen is a also good idea. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. I always watch you when you post new stuff.

Man this guy just keeps giving and this time it's excellent advice for people who got projectors. 👍 Once your audio components are sorted and your room is looking good, it's time to turn your attention towards acoustic treatment! So long as the acoustic panels are placed correctly, your listening experience should be enhanced but just remember... diffusion is just as important as absorption and don't forget... when sound hits a wall that's had plenty of absorption treatment, it practically deadens the energy therefore no need to do an opposing wall... example, if you got a carpeted floor, then there really shouldn't be any need to do a ceiling,! Not unless you want to deaden the sound of your room!

I can confirm after painting my white (ugh) walls in my theatre area of the basement it made a massive difference. Coincidence but my color is pretty much the same as yours. The only issue i have now is my drop ceiling being white. The ceiling is only 7' and my walls and carpet are dark, since this is a multiuse room I think going dark would make it seem like a cave when I'm not using my projector screen and I don't want that. So I appreciate the point in the video of compromise, its all about what works for YOU. Thank you for the video!

But i just added some acustic panels and omg did that help my system to lighting up alot more. I also just got myself a new Polk 5.0 setup. So now i am back to enjoy movies and music once again. Any tip for good solid 12inch subs to go with Polk??? I use a 15inch High End Cerwin Vega 250watt at the moment.

The most infuriating thing I found out when I bought my projector XGIMI HORIZON PRO with a normal 120" 4k motorized screen was that almost everyone on Reddit/AVS told me that I need an ALR screen (which cost 5x what my screen did cost) because of where I have my windows. But other than if the sun is straight on I feel like it's more than watchable in daytime. I can even have my lights on medium settings while still looking more than watchable, especially light shows like Ted Lasso and other sitcoms or even sports. So I just want to say unless you are a big picture quality freak and your projector has 2000+ ANSI lumens, don't overpay for an ALR before trying out a normal cheap screen.
@ConsoleGamer01
@ConsoleGamer01 2 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. Couple months ago I purchased the Samsung LSP7T Ultra short throw projector which isnt very cheap and I really didnt want to over spend on an ALR screen as well. I bought a 120 inch high contrast grey screen off ebay for a quarter of the cost of an ALR and couldnt be happier. It is definitely watchable during the day and if there is a lot of sunlight coming in from the side i just put the roller shutters down a little.

Hey man, I know it may be off topic for this particular video, but I’m thinking about a future projection setup in a bedroom I’ve turned into my movie room (only one small window that has shudders for pretty much no light pollution). Anyway, after seeing some of your videos over the years, you’re the first guy I thought to ask: Here goes - the room I mentioned can’t really tolerate a 100 inch screen or projected image, but it could support a 90-92 inch screen/image, which is still much larger than my current 77inch TV there now. I can’t seem to find ANY screens that are ALR/CLR in those sizes. I think most UST projectors can “dial down” to an image that size, so it’s really the screen that’s limiting the options. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks!
@ChrisMajestic
@ChrisMajestic 2 жыл бұрын
If you can’t find a CLR screen that small you may not need one depending on the projector since the image will be so bright at that size.

Please help! I bought a ViewSonic PX701 4k. It's only giving me 4k if I send my PS5 directly into Projector. I have a 5.1 sound bar set up. When I try to use the arc ports like I have been with my PS4, the video gets sent down to 1080 and it tells me projector doesn't support 4k all.of a sudden. Is my sound bar the issue? I am able to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio from my sound bar so I'd assume it can send a 4K video signal?! I don't want to return this projector if I don't have to please help.

Those foam panels do pretty much nothing, the bass traps due to the thickness and density (also location) help, but you need more of them. If you ever relocate one of your subs to another area that will probably help a ton as well, both up front they most likely have the same room modes and nulls, thus negating the benefit of multiple subs for coverage, so you would just get a SPL boost. Personally saw this with my setup when I had both of my 15" Monoliths up front and measured it with REW, they had the exact same nulls. I like the aesthetics of 2 subs up front, so rather than move one to the back, I just got more :) I do always enjoy your videos, your not a hifi snob, nor am I just sharing some details from personal experience as I have taken it up a few notches since my initial setup.

I do want to repaint my walls, not sure if I want to go with a dark accent wall and lighter other walls for my living room or if I want to go for a middle ground darkness for every wall. Won't be painting the ceiling but I have a clr screen so it's less important. I do find it amusing that you spent more time talking about paint a relatively simple topic (that demonstration was pretty good though) and literally 60 seconds talking about acoustic treatments which is a relatively dense topic and one that a lot of people don't really understand and make common mistakes such as not placing treatments at ear level and using thin cheap foam that essentially EQs the high end out of your room and doesn't touch the problematic bass frequencies. Anthony Grimoni who was on Audioholics podcasts is an excellent resource of knowledge on it albeit pretty technical and Home Theater Gurus on YT has some pretty in-depth videos but easier to understand for people just starting out. I plan on doing some treatments on my back wall and front wall for SBIR.

Funny, i hav no ideal why they make white Projectors short or long throw.. Smh, i hav a LG UST projector and i really wish it was black. It doesn't reflect at all. But everything around it is Black. If and when i upgrade again it will be a black projector. My LG is small and thin. And some of the newer models are so Big and square. They take up a lot of room being wide. i hav 100" screen perfect for my size room. But i tell u Nothing beats a home Home theater. Money well spent.. Stay Safe, Be Safe!!!!

definatley do not do a 16:9 Screen. 2.39:1 (2.4:1) is almost Every Movie. now. Then you wont have Black bars on top and bottom for most of your movies. For 16:9 Content get a 2nd Screen that is on the walll behind your 2.39:1 or just paint the wall. I have a 80% Rule. The Screen Should be 80% of the entire Wall Space.
