New subscriber here. Thank you for these videos. Another cheap alternative for poop trays is to use a plastic sheet (from a roll) stapled to a frame. The frame can be made out of tree limbs (like crape myrtle) or whatever you have lying around that is reasonable study.

Thanks for watching and subscribing moonmagnolia! Yea that could work too.

I built a few wire cages before, and used 1/2" conduit for the legs. Just cut to the height of the cages, and strap the conduit to the cages on the edges with zip ties or small plumbing straps. Easy and sturdy without having to hang the unit from a wall or ceiling. 3/4" PVC legs would probably work, too. You can even put some wheels in the conduit so you roll it around if needed. Great video.

I use a sheet of newspaper on the pans. Everything just slides off the trays into a gorilla cart. Then I roll my cart down to the compost and dump it all together, poop and paper.

That’s also a good idea. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing the video I have a quick question can you take the bottom floor and just turn it upside down so the L is pointed up So you can use the floor itself as the egg catcher you still should be able to zip tie it the same.
@squarecountyhomestead Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! No you can’t flip it because it has a raised support bar that runs the 6 ft length. That would possibly hang up eggs.

I had the same question. I do wonder if pipe wrap for insulation would make a nice cushioned edge for the eggs to roll to?
@squarecountyhomestead Жыл бұрын
In another video you’ll see that we did eventually put insulation in. I had a single hen that would lay at the very back and sometimes the egg would have a dent in it. Thanks for watching Bigs!
