I bought a cheap Chinese amplifier to use with my speakers.
What did I think? What's inside? Watch to find out!
0:00:08 - The unboxing (first, obviously!)
0:04:50 - Demonstration of the amplifier in use.
0:09:34 - The teardown.
0:14:04 - Conclusions and thoughts.
The music in this video (used to demonstrate the amplifier, obviously) is "Embers Circling Downwards" by Sarin, which is licenced CC-BY and is available from freemusicarchive.org/music/Sarin

I’ve got 4 of those speakers. Linked up to the Sony Xb8av they are monsters- that pumps out 364watts and next door told me their living room shakes when it’s on 😂

Thanks for the tear down. Mine hums terribly but now I know I can take it apart and se what they have loose around the transformers.

Looks like a good solution. A couple of years ago I bought a Thomson home cinema amp + subwoofer & 5 small speakers second hand on the Bon Coin. Turned out the seller lives in our village and knew OH's family years ago. So still using that. Optical input with various HDMI for the modern stuff. AUX for record player and video recorder. Jack input from my old Sony Hi-Fi for CD's/K7's.

I have this and i was surprised. I have a pc wired to 2x subwoofers, this amp and 2 eltax concept 200w speakers. The sound is mental and can be heard down my road. The house shakes so you tell me how is this possible?

Aliexpress tells me this unit has the TPA3116D2 audio chip. Shame it doesn't do its additional functions well (ie, Bluetooth and radio) - renders them more or less useless. Depending on the unit and power supply, sometimes using a safer/cleaner power supply remedies noise/hum problems, though the teardown doesn't fill me with confidence that it'll be the culprit. The TPA3255 "chi-fi" amplifiers are worth a look, and are coming down in price.

Yes, the TPA3255 looks interesting, and at least it is not (as yet) fraudulently advertised as "800W"! The radio and Bluetooth are both rather poor, but I think a lot of that is down to abysmal design. You can't solder a bit of wire into the Bluetooth antenna, it's 2.4GHz for god's sake, it doesn't work like that! However, it's a cheap and cheerful and reasonably powerful amplifier. When connected to my phone via Bluetooth, or a CD player by phono, it can run the speakers and nicely fill the living room. I don't need anything more powerful, and with a single button to switch modes and turn knobs for volume and bass/treble adjustment, it's pretty easy to use. I don't use the radio or microphone stuff at all. Just wanted something to drive the speakers and it does that perfectly well. The only downside is the Bluetooth is a bit crap. Phone works fine near the unit, but fails more than a few metres away (WiFi interference?). I'm buying an internet radio from Amazon, it'll arrive tomorrow. Plugging in by the line out socket, ought to sound pretty good and effectively take over from what my phone was used for.

Will this help me annoy my neighbours if they are being loud or would you suggest me using something more powerful? I'm not a sound tech person but I have a 200w sony speaker if that helps...its a old one

Thanks for the video, have you had any issues with noise? I received one today and there is audible noise even with the volume right down, for example when the LCD is flashing I can hear it effecting the noise. I am wondering if it is a grounding issue, non of the boards appear to be grounded, what do you reckon? Cheers, Duncan
@heyrickblog
@heyrickblog 2 жыл бұрын
Why does your display flash? Mine just says "LINE", "BLUE", or the radio frequency. Oh, and "HI" when I turn it on. 😉 With the volume cranked right up, there is a very faint hiss in Bluetooth mode, and a slightly louder one with line in mode. To put this in context, I pretty much have to put my ear to the speaker in order to hear it. Given I don't tend to listen to music much beyond ~40% on the volume, this is not a problem, and it's a natural consequence of the fact that it's not a balanced input. Is the noise that you can hear a sort of buzz rather than a hiss (more specifically, 50Hz or 60Hz according to your local line frequency)? If so, and with the LCD flashing affecting things, I'd wonder if the power supply is faulty (bad capacitors?) meaning that the AC isn't being properly smoothed (hence the buzz) and with the caps not keeping the power up, changes in consumption (like the display flashing) would be audible. After all, it's the same basic power supply running the amplifier chip too. Honestly, if I hooked up an amplifier and heard anything at all (asides from a barely there hiss at max volume), I'd send the unit back as faulty.

I have this same amplifier but it stopped working. I used it for 4 years and now it doesn't turn on anymore. Do you have any idea how i can fix it? Maybe replace the transformer?

Hi, finally, how many musical (RMS) watts does it push out /channel? U say 60 but looking at the size of the traditional transformator my guess is around 2x 10-20 Watt RMS

Seems the cd7266cz is a Chinese clone of the TDA7266 audio amplifier - good enough I am sure, but 7W might be a stretch.

Harder than you might think, as what's out of copyright in one place may be in copyright elsewhere. I have a short clip of an ancient LP playing Pachelbel's Canon barred in Germany, for example. So I picked a song that fit the sort of things I listen to, licenced Creative Commons.

I found one of the same model for $100. Do you recommend that I buy it?
@heyrickblog

If we're talking American dollars, then no. You can find things that look extremely similar for less. Try this on Amazon, for $35: www.amazon.com/dp/B0BX8TGZZF/ Different box, but the facilities and behaviour (saying "HI" when turned on) make me think it's pretty much the same stuff inside. And at a third of the price...

so on end how much this amplifier outputs power? and can i wire a sony ss-j30 speakers on it?
@heyrickblog
@heyrickblog 2 жыл бұрын
According to Electrotanya, your speakers are 6W nominal, so should work okay with this amplifier. I would guess that it outputs about 7W (but I'm *not* an expert), but you don't want to dump too much power into smaller speakers. It works well with my speakers, good bass response too.

I can answer this very question. I have this amp, wired to 2 subwoofers {one sub is powered and wired to the non powered)and panasonic speakers then wired into my laptop. I use the sound for mixing etc and people can hear my music at the end of my street. Hope that answers your question. for 20 quid which i paid for the amp i am very very happy.

Hi, is it possible to use this amplifier to active speaker ? If yes, please let me know how to do that ?

Hi, i expand his question. We have this amplifier and active speaker with jack 6.3mm and XLR female sockets. How can we connect this devices? Is it possible to make audio cable with jack 6.3mm on one side and bare cable on the other side? Will it work?
@heyrickblog
@heyrickblog 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not an audio expert - but I would wonder why you're using an amplifier with an active speaker? Are you sure the 6.3mm jack is carrying what you think it is carrying? Because if you have XLR sockets, the jack may be for balanced audio (just like the XLR). It is possible to connect unbalanced signals (such as used by this amplifier) to balanced inputs, however you must be certain that there is no phantom power present on the balanced inputs, as this is usually about 48V and would destroy an amplifier. Your best bet, really, is to get in touch with a local audio professional who can advise you better than some random person on the internet...

Amazingly BT-309A these amplifiers are being headlined as 800W peak and 100W RMS. Yet they use a 2x7W chip for the output. Clearly the advertising is outrageously dishonest.
@heyrickblog
@heyrickblog 2 жыл бұрын
I think the idea is a maximum absolute peak output (for a microsecond if you drive the chip to destruction) of 400W (nowhere even remotely near the sustained output), *multiplied* *by* *two* because _stereo_ (yes, really). I also think that if one imagines that they can pick up an 800W amp for thirty odd euros, then they're about as delusional as the advertising. 😉 Still, my CD player managed 1W output so was kind of quiet with the sound cranked all the way up. This amp is more than sufficient with the sound below half, so I'm happy with it.
