Well great video thank you for making it. I really like your mounting job unfortunately I won't be able to do that so I was wondering if I would be able to drill two holes in the shunt and mount it to my wood platform that I'll be mounting the monitor itself too as well?. And I was also wondering about the external power supply would that be coming from the solar charge controller at all or does anything even need to be put in there? Thank you again this was very helpful. This is my first solar build I'm running one 100 watt panel a Renergy 100ah battery. And I have the 100 A-FL battery meter. I hope to add another 100 watt panel in a couple of weeks. P.S. love the shop, you're having fun.

I wouldn’t drill any holes into your shunt. Just get a 90 degree bracket and mount to the shunt where the earth cable goes then just mount bracket to a wall etc and just power from your battery . Thanks for watching 👍🍻

@@craigfinley8339not likely to cause the smoke to come out lol. However it is disappointing that this meter is not bi-directional, so there for it can not give you a true state of charge reading, and that makes it almost useless IMHO

Hi i was wondering, the SOC displayed on the screen should not be accurate since it is not a coulombmeter but just an estimation according to the voltage. But if we have a lifepo4 the voltage varies very little so this type of display can not correctly estimate the SOC I am wrong? You would need a coulomb-meter for that (which counts the real current that has been used). Or am I talking nonsense and the displayed battery soc is indeed based on the outgoing current? What do you think?

Great video and as you said no other one on online. I wish to place the monitor inside my caravan which would be about 4 metres from the 200A shunt which I will attach straight onto the battery as per your video. So I would need to have each of the four thin wires extended by about 4 meters to travel that distance. Now my question is, will that distance of itself adversely effect the readout and would I need thicker wires (presuming I could extend in the first place)? Thank you.
@EFFICIENTSELF2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment . I have a renogy battery monitor and it has 4 thin wires of the similar size and it’s actually 6 metres long . So you wouldn’t think it could affect it surely. It’s my opinion only and I could be wrong . Maybe try a load first and then extend the wires and then retry the same load and see if any difference in readout . Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🍻

It makes no difference which way the shunts are connected; nevertheless, the leads that go to the shunt, the ones that connect to the small Phillips heads, must be properly fitted, one on the battery side and one on the load side with the correct corresponding port. Hello mate. Wanted to ask your opinion on a few things. -Do you think it will affect readings if I had my monitor on extended wires three or 4 feet away from the battery shunt? -do you think it will affect readings if I have the load side of the shunt connected to a vehicles chassis and all loads connected to the vehicles chassis at at a different location. -I have a two battery bank set up in parallel. I have two monitors and was looking to monitor the batteries individually. Although they are working as a collective. Yours or anyone else's thought would be awesome

Hey Mate, Can you think of a reason why I'm not getting a Voltage Reading on my meter. I rewired the shunt (200amp) because I thought I might have got it wrong there. Then checked all the connections and they match yours, My smart charger is charging at 13.4v so it means the battery is near full. Using a 375mwh Inverter and a 12v 110ah Deep cycle battery. Still missing something as the Voltage is not showing. Also, internal resistance is 0. Anything else to correct?
@EFFICIENTSELF2 жыл бұрын
Nothing I can think of mate if you double checked your connections .. they are fairly straightforward. Perhaps a faulty shunt? .. if you just purchased the unit ,try to see if you can send back or ask for replacement? Hopefully you get it sorted out 👍🍻

everything is running through the shunt. Only problem it doesn’t tell you if power is going in or out. @EFFICIENTSELF2 жыл бұрын
I just had to rewatch to understand your question. Yes the glue gun was drawing approx 8 amps and the 1.66AH was the amount of power used so far on the meter which you can reset. So in that time I had consumed 1.66AH of power . So for example if I had the glue gun running for 2 hours drawing 8 amps , on the right hand side where it was reading 1.66AH would be reading 16ah . Hope this makes sense cheers 👍🍻

I have a 100 mah battery. The battery level icon shows full. The numbers at the top right (mah capacity) reads 4.85 and climbing. How does that number relate to mah capacity? I would think that it would determine the max capacity of the battery. This seems to work great based upon your video, but I have no idea what all the numbers indicate. Do you?

No...I wasn't able to find anything close that reviewed the details of the metering. The only trading that makes sense to me is the volts and how that refers to charge level. I just purchased a basic percentage/v meter to get a quick visual reference. That's all I really wanted, but I was led to believe a shunt was essential. Now I'm realizing that is not necessarily the case. Oh well... At least my panel will be lit up nicely and look technical. Cheers👍🙏
