Bang for the buck PCIe NVMe SSD - Kingston A1000
The A1000 is Kingston Technology’s newest PCIe NVMe SSD. Kingston Technology has positioned the A1000 as a budget offering for those who are looking to reap the benefits of a PCIe NVMe SSD however at a more affordable price tag. The A1000 is available in 3 storage tiers - 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB - today we’ll be reviewing the 480GB A1000 which is currently available on Amazon for $128 CAD.
In the interest of full disclosure i’d like to let you know that I was sent this review unit by Kingston Technology, however they are in no way influencing this review. The entirety of this review is of my own opinion and findings.
In this video we will also be comparing the Kingston A1000 to the Toshiba XG5, and comparing the Kingston A1000 to the Toshiba OCZ RD400.
Our test devices are two Dell XPS 15 devices: the Dell XPS 15 9560 and Dell XPS 15 9570.

Ok Video. Lets get one thing straight - the Kingston m.2 is only a pcie-3 gen 3 x2 where as the Other 2 are pcie-3 gen 3 x4 which over all will be better then an X2 model.

1gb test? put it through a high test and see where they start to fall off. allow for cache falloff and seq q and threads and you will notice a huge difference like the 660p it looks good and a simple non thorough test but quickly falls apart and not much better than a good but sometimes a lot worse than a a good sata ssd.

@KevinShroff
@KevinShroff 5 жыл бұрын
Does the ASUS FX504GE have an M.2 slot? It seems like there are various configurations of that laptop so you will need to check, but based off this specifications sheet it does seem like the ASUS FX504GE supports M.2 PCIe SSD's including the Kingston A1000 www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-TUF-Gaming-FX504/specifications/

Isn't it Sata M.2 SSD and not nVME M.2 SSD?
@fedotov79
@fedotov79 5 жыл бұрын
No it is not. It is an entry-level PCIe NVMe, which uses only 2 pcie lanes.
@faisalhaider007
@faisalhaider007 5 жыл бұрын
@@fedotov79 that's Interesting so it means, now physically connectors are same for both M.2 Sata SSD and M.2 pcie nVME. Since boards are mostly with nVME connectors i.e. 2 lanes. That's something weird they did with this connector ambiguity.
@KevinShroff
@KevinShroff 5 жыл бұрын
@@faisalhaider007 I mean the M.2 connector has always been capable of accepting SATA SSDs in M.2 form factor and NVMe. M.2 is just the form factor and connector, NVMe PCIe and SATA are the SSD technologies
@faisalhaider007
@faisalhaider007 5 жыл бұрын
@@KevinShroff yeah thanks for clearing. M.2/2.5 SATA SSDs can only go up to 600mb/s. While nVME pcie SSDs shoot up to 4000mb/s, right? Once again thanks. Only thing that literally confused me, those notches, since nVME SSDs come with two and Sata with three, now even In Sata connector we can have nVME. 😀
@KevinShroff
@KevinShroff 5 жыл бұрын
Haha yes, the naming and standard conventions of SSD's can be quite confusing, especially when one term implies (or seems to imply, but doesn't actually imply) the other. Yes, those figures are correct - the SATA SSDs can reach upto ~600mb/s whereas NVMe SSD's can reach upto ~4000mb/s (for now). NVMe SSD's use PCIe lanes so they are magnitudes faster than their SATA counterparts.

It is not an NVME they only have the one key this drive has two keys it is a SATA drive.
@KevinShroff
@KevinShroff 5 жыл бұрын
I know thats what the keys seem to imply, but the Kingston A1000 is definitely an NVMe drive considering that it is sold everywhere as an NVMe PCIe SSD and also behaves exactly as such with nothing other than the key contradicting this.

Sorry but there s no way this one is better than the "competition", other entry level Nvme drives such as Adata s Gammix 11 (or SX8200, which is basically its clone) both are pcie3 x4 drives, beat this one hands down in every other review and cost a mere 10 bucks more. The A1000 isn t even much faster than SATA SSDs and in certain scenarios even slower.....
@KevinShroff
@KevinShroff 5 жыл бұрын
The Adata XPG Gammix S11 does NOT cost "a mere 10 bucks more" - currently in Canada the Kingston A1000 480GB is priced at $125 CAD whereas the Adata XPG Gammix S11 which you refer to is $241 CAD. That is quite a significant price difference and more than justifies any performance gap between the two. On the other hand, if you go with the XPG SX8200, you are paying 18.18% more than the Kingston A1000 for 39.89% more theoretical performance. Whether you will actually benefit from this increase is up to the user to decide, and factor in whether the price increase still makes it worth it (in my experience NVMe SSD's by nature are inherently very very fast so the average user would not detect any difference in real-world usage, and thus they opt for the cheaper option as the speed increase is imperceptible outside of benchmarks, and the lower price is more attractive). Nevertheless it is reasonable to assume that many customers may opt for the slightly pricier but faster XPG SX8200, however along the same lines of reasoning, considering that both devices aim at the budget NVMe market, another more budget-constricted customer may opt for the cheaper Kingston A1000. Keep in mind that prices change all the time for these SSDs, and there are often discounts which may tip the comparison more in favor of a particular SSD. Additionally, what SATA SSDs are you referring to that come close to the NVMe Kingston A1000? SATA3 SSD's are limited to maximum transfer rates of upto ~600 MB/s, which is a far cry from what any NVMe SSD can achieve. Can you find and show me a SATA3 SSD that has a higher or equivalent AS SSD Benchmark overall score to the NVMe Kingston A1000?
