I’m off on my bike to do my family of 4’s weekly groceries. My budget is $120/week so I have to take advantage of "in season" and "on sale". I have a pantry stocked with staples (grains, pulses, oats, rice) so come see what goes in the trolley this week to keep us happy, healthy AND on budget!
Keen to see more about ways we travel, invest and live..... you can check it out here: nzmoneykarma.s...

Thanks for watching x

Don’t worry about the soy sauce going off. Some expert cook in the US said that you could use it forever, because of the high sslt content. Growing up our family would buy soy sauce by the half gallon and we’re still at alive and kicking! Enjoyed listening to what you were planning on doing with your purchases.

Try garlic chives and scallions for the green leaves.. the scallions will multiply in a season and can be used like onions

Hi There! Alison from Essex England here. Another interesting and enjoyable video, thanks. Ahh, cherries, we love them too. however, the birds got there before us again this year. None left when we went foraging. Blackbirds seem to especially love them. I think you shop very wisely! Our budget for the month is £160 per month for the 2 of us and our 2 Budgies and 2 Guinea-pigs and it covers everything we need. Mind you, it's getting harder to keep to it as the cost of everything just keeps rising. What do you generally buy when you do the bulk shop you mentioned? We buy plain white, wholemeal and gluten free self Raising flour twice a year. Rice and milk powder we buy every 2 years. We generally buy organic oats in bulk too, but often it is no cheaper than buying packs from the supermarket. Nuts, seeds, dried fruit etc we buy in bulk occasionally. I started making my own bread when the children were small. Back then i had to make 3 loaves every other day. Now i only bake 2 loaves a week and they are for my husband because i have been gluten intolerant for about 10 years. So now i have to just enjoy the smell! I don't have any ground Mace in, but i do have Mace Blades, so i had a sniff of them for you. I would say they have a musty, mildly sweet spicey smell. I use them in pickled cucumbers . Not sure if the ground Mace would have the same smell or not. Kind Regards Ali.

Hi Ali, Oh how annoying that the birds got there before you! That happened on our fig tree this morning, I walked in a saw a beautifully ripe fig-put my bag inside and came out to pick it and the birds were already at it! In our bulk shop we buy 25kg bags of oats, red lentils, basmati rice. The rice and lentil last the year and the oats I buy every 6 months. I buy 20kg bags of spray free flour too but that is not available all the times and buy just what's at the supermarket in between times. I also buy bulk sun dried tomatoes, dates, figs, quinoa and chia seeds. Next bulk order I do I will do a video too :-)

My favourite veg shop! I often check out their daily specials as I go past them every day. Since moving to this region in 2023 I love how much cheaper you can buy things at these types of stores.

:-) I've only just discovered this one and it is great- each time I have gone the prices have been really good- just off now to make that relish! What region did you move from?

Thanks! It is more and more of a challenge but definitely buying now and preserving for later will help keep the costs in check (I hope....)

Thanks @madamkiwi1094 for stopping by :-). I made the three ingredient biscuits today- she's treasure trove of easy cheap baking- I use butter as I don't like to use palm oil and even then it's still affordable!

Wow I love avocado but here, in my part of Canada, they are so expensive! I was at Costco yesterday and you could get a bag of 5 for 10.99.
