ASousa Makes it - 045 Workbench
For a long time, I wanted to make a good and sturdy workbench.
I had 3 criteria in mind: adequate size, heavy and cheap.
So, I did my plans using SketchUp and bought some Portuguese pine wood, that costed me in total 220 euros (could be a bit less, there were some leftovers).
The biggest challenge to me was making the top, because my Planer/thicknesser is small and my clamps aren't that good.
I struggled to find the best approach to make the glue up and the flattening work.
The top is a lamination of 22 boards. My strategy was to glue up 4 boards at a time: that way, even though the boards aren't perfectly flat, with the clamps pressure, the gaps are closed.
To flatten the top, I used a flattening jig with a good quality flattening router bit, Tornado by FraiserTools.com. It worked AMAZING, even with my cheap plunge router!!!
