I was there when front beach bungalow 150 bath in Maenam. For me it is a least westernised part of koh samui back then.

$233/mo w/ AC and utilities... this would be a fun place to rent while we shop for a permanent rental beach house or seaview villa on the island. Reminds me of being a backpacker there in the 90's except I was too cheap for AC... and forget about a TV! Cheap Charlies Huts had my name all over it.

Lilly, I like your restaurant and the little street it is on. The name is cute too. The rents for the apartments you've shown are awesome for anyone wanting to live in Koh Samui and there are indeed a lot of foreigners who love heat and don't need air con. Sadly I'm not one of them. The 2nd apartment would definitely be more along the lines for me should I ever get to take a vacation there. The thing that discourages me from travelling to many places is the humidity. It was cute how Luke was trying to help you show the apartment. I notice the 2nd set of apartments are on "stilts" and I've seen that in other tropical places like northeastern Australia. Can you tell me whether the Thai apartments are on stilts to help with air circulation? Thank you for showing your viewers what is available there for accommodation and also the better times to travel when we can travel again one day. All the best to you and Wat and Luke. I've been to Thailand a few times now -- I always spend some of my time in Maenam. Typically, I stay at places a bit west of Fisherman's Village (Silent Beach Treehouse, CoCo Beach Sunrise, Moonhut, etc.). They are all fine places, but... As I stay longer each time, I have been looking for a singular "home base" that I can afford to rent long-term and just travel out from there, rather than dealing with the uncertainties of booking places in different locations on a day-to-day basis, not being sure if my previous location will be available upon my return. I'm willing to pay for the added certainty that I would have a place to leave my stuff, travel light, and come and go as I please. *Note: This also helps simplify my visa application process, not having to show bookings for every single place I might stay, on any given day. I was under the impression that such rentals were on a SIX-month minimum. Are such places available for only 2-3 months -- even during high season? This year, I'll be returning for 3 months (Dec., Jan., Feb.). I will be spending a good portion of that time in Maenam again. I'd like to explore this option to make arrangements to reserve a place like this for NEXT year, during this same time. If this proves to be a viable option, I may try to set something up for each season that I return. By the way, I've been following your posts for a few years now, since before the Covid pandemic. I'm impressed with your compassion within the community. Perhaps on my next visit we can talk about ways for a person like me to give something back to the community -- rather than being just another tourist passing through... ...this has also been on my mind, as I look to find that one special place in Thailand to call my "home base"...

Nice you show the cheap places that is available so people see it's not just an overpriced party Island. Love Mae Nam as well as other places on Samui. As for the beach, imo it's a bit steep and kinda tough to do long walks forth and back, because of the rough sand and not to flat beach, or maybe i'm just getting old ;) , but Mae nam IS a great place on Samui nonetheless. Chilled, not to many people and lots of nice local restaurants/bars.

The rental room are nice just like my home town in BORNEO. Environment and weather are the same as my home town . But it awesome.

Could you talk more about your experience moving and marrying a Thai man as a US citizen? How difficult was immigration and the visa process? Any struggles you faced or advice. Ok... thanks Lilly... good info. I came to Koh SAMOI in 2008 and at a different beach. We did take a day trip around the island and saw the Grandma/Grabdpa rocks , rode some Chang, rang the bells at the Temple. The beaches are perfect. So, ha ha, I think the foot fish massage, or foot exfoliate, or foot rejuvenation..... but not EAT THE DEAD SKIN OFF YOUR FEET....LOL... I know that what they do.... but you surprised me... love it.Still laughing..:-))

Sorry your place is closed, but someday soon, some business will return. Do you or Wat cook or hire someone? Anyway, I wanted to ask a favor from Wat. I know this is a long shot (but you never know) if and when he has any free time and about town, could he inquire about an older couple (maybe in their 60;s) named Shaw and Bo. Shaw is from Mae Nam and Bo is originally from Koh Phangan. They have one daughter (maybe 40, forgot her name). Anyway, they lived and owned a small bungalow on Sunset Beach (Hat Rin Nai) on Phangan for many years, but have moved back to your area somewhere and also owned another small beach bungalow in Mae Nam. When I lived in Phangan (1983-1984), they let me stay in an old fisherman's hut cum bungalow for $50. per month and fed me everyday. They really took good care of me. Like family. Always indebted. Due to local politics, they were forced to leave Phangan. That's another story! Anyway, I haven't seen them for many years and was just getting a bit sentimental, thinking about them. I am a retired Special needs teacher and live in NOLA, mothers town. I am from Puerto Rico and was displaced by hurricanes Irma and Maria. I want to move to Thailand for a few long months, my kids think I am crazy. But, 8t is so affordable, island life! Oh lord will I have to sneak out of the country?
