Every man and his dog has seen a mid fitted into a door so taking the time to do the IB install and document it here is the best thing you could have done as for a lot of us we didnt know that something like that was possible. Anyone seeing this should watch the whole 9 episodes as its a great guide, and tutorial in how to get a great sounding stereo for a reasonable price. I do understand that cutting the car will put a lot of people off but it shouldn't as it really isn't as bad as it looks.

I don’t know why every one gives you a hard time about the way you mount the mid bass. But what your doing is nothing new. But when I was in high school I remember reading a car audio magazine article in study hall. The article was talking about someone that built a 93 or 94 Cadillac Eldorado. A brand new car at the time. Any how, he mounted 2 12” Diamond Audio pro Audio mid bass in the kicks the way you did except the cone faced you instead of the magnet. Made a custom painted grill to hide them. If I remember right it was either 5-1/4 or 6-1/2 in the dash and horn compression tweeters under the dash. He used 10” mid bass installed in the rear side panels don’t remember what those where and 6-1/2 and tweeters in the rear deck. For SQ competition he used a 10” Infinity Kappa mounted in a metal box installed flush mount in the passenger floor just in front of the seat hidden by the floor mat. For Spl competition there was a separate subwoofer system activated by a hidden toggle switch in the center console. In those days they where pushing the sale of this material called MATT. It was some kinda mesh screen material that was mounted to the back of a subwoofer box 📦 that was built just barely bigger than the subwoofer it’s self. This guy cutt out the whole center of that structure panel and brace that was right behind the rear seat. Then he made a baffle panel and mounted it with screws and windshield glue inside the car. He installed 4 12” Infinity Kappas ,gutted all the foam out of the rear seat to promote more air flow. In the trunk he made a frame some where around 6 to8” deep then put this MATT material on the back. Then to cover up the ugly he made a baffled panel and flush mounted the cross overs and full range amps. Under the rear deck he made what looked like a dresser styled with 2 motorized drawers that rolled in and out by remote. Each drawer held 1 of the subwoofer amps flush mounted and fans installed on the back of the drawers The Cadillac emblem he put on the front of that rack made it look really unique. I remember this article so well cause at the time I was really into Infinity Audio. But Also that install was so out rages so crazy yet when stealth mode other that the Alpine head unit, you couldn’t hardly tell there was an audio system in the car and there was lots of trunk space. With the factory tinted windows you couldn’t see the deck any way. You would think that the way he cut that car up, it would be a weakened piece of Swiss cheese 🧀. Yet the car maintained structural integrity and it passed the safety inspection was tagged and insured. This guy had a daily driver brand new car cut all to hell to make way for this wild ass in stall did nothing but take home trophies. During sound quality compilation this guy played classical or orchestra music 🎶 in those days cars where stolen quite often just for the audio systems so stealth installs was the name of the game. They guy was praised in the article for cutting up a brand new car. A Cadillac at that. It took serious balls to just hack away. Personal I think that anyone giving you a hard time, is only doing it cause they are scared to do it them selves.

It’s a common topic. I personally would not cut up a vehicle for IB…It would have to be a car that the customer uses for competition and no plans for selling. I prefer the location for mid-bass drivers in the kicks if room is available. I have heard really nice installs with midbass in the doors. But it’s a risk if not reinforced and installed correctly. IB is excellent for SQ and high sensitive drivers. Best of luck and God Bless..
@michaelpalmisano70105 ай бұрын
I agree with a lot of what's being said in this video,but as a master installer/fabricator myself I'd have to say doing the midbass in the kicks and cutting your car is not the best option at all. It was said putting midbass in the doors and having no rattles is not possible...100 percent not true at all. And there are ways to put the divers in the kicks in that same location without cutting the car ( vehicle depending) and depending on the drivers you use etc. cutting the vehicle and putting drivers in the kicks absolutely does not guarantee you the best possible sound quality..sorry but that 100 percent b.s . I've been been in the industry 25 plus years building SQ, SPL, and everything in between an around and I promise you there are better and easier ways to get an amazing SQ set up.

If you're ever needing sub bass performance from a midbass driver for whatever reason, try the Audiofrog GB60 if you have not. I would love to do an IB midbass setup in my current build (1993 Chevy Indy Pace Truck). My concern is the music's sound level outside the vehicle, either when driving around or when doing a demo. I would love to see a video of what the car sounds like from the outside at demo levels, with doors closed and windows up. With a single cab pickup, space is at a premium and doing IB would make a HUGE difference.

36:08 €2500 is very fair for a budget system considering all the gear went into the vehicle. The real investment, or price, will be installation time and tuning I would imagine? Around €1500 retail value for mine, can't find what the Helix B4 would've cost. Though still missing the midbass drivers. Still have to figure out a midbass solution so I am very thankful for these videos and will be subscribing to your patreon as time, budget but mostly weather allows me to do the install. Thank you Peter. Most of it is second handed gathered cheap over the last 5 years as budget allowed, €970 spent on the gear from my own pocket. Might have to purchase the HEC module adding another €120 as I'm unable to measure in REW with a chinese BT to S/PDIF receiver. Peiying PY-1K76D connected to 2 Focal P30F's Helix B4 connected to OEM speakers wired active, Focal 100CV in dash soon™ Helix DSP Mini Focal Solid 2 connected to the midbass, eventually And once budget allows I will be upgrading the DSP to an 8 or 10 channel model to run the 100cv active on the B4 and Solid 2 dedicated to midbass, possibly a center channel on the dash. The 6channel DSP will make its way to my home office 👍

If you poor water on any hydrophobic layer directly on right angle, they’ll all let water flow through, otherwise they would let air through either. Their purpose is to direct water splash and vapour to flow down on their surface. You need a louvre on the outside of the foam in a location like a wheel well like in this install to deal with the direct water hit, then the foam deals with the rest that may penetrate.

I've deadened the crap out of everything and I still have plenty of resonance that drives me nuts. This is super interesting, and in many ways easier than a decent door installation. Once you’ve worked up the courage to cut your car open😅 I’m contemplating trying this in my ‘09 Saab 9-3, the doors of which are hopeless for speaker installation . It has plastic inner wheel wells though, and the drivers would be firing pretty much straight into those. Does the Suzuki have plastic inner wells? If so, did you have problems with them rattling? Also, if you live in a cold country, where temperatures regularly hit -10°C and lower, would that have major effects on the response and behavior of the driver?
