Nicole Holford Lockney not really. One of my little sisters would play with the boys occasionally. I worked at a grocery store around the corner and would check Rick out once in a while. His parents owned a music store. Just basic stuff. This was back in the mid 70’s...things were pretty mellow.

I have seen Cheap Trick live 6 times over the years. The first time was in 1976 when they were one of 2 bands that opened for Queen. They are from Rockford, Illinois. The lead singer/rhythm guitarist is Robin Zander (how cute! 💋) and the lead guitar is played by Rick Nielsen. They are the only 2 original members left. The last time I saw them was in 2013 when they opened for Aerosmith at the 110th Harley Davidson anniversary. They still jam!!

I wore out Live at Budokan the summer of 79. I listened to it almost exclusively on a two week cross country trip that summer. I was 14 and my dad had passed in Jan that year from a brutal battle with cancer. I just collapsed in on myself and kept this album/tape on constantly that trip. Funny the things you remember.

Loved them! I've seen them in concert in Madison WI, Duluth MN, at least four times in Minneapolis MN and once in NYC. A few years back, that same brother won a contest to see Cheap Trick in NYC (airfare, hotel, and concert tickets) and invited me to go along. Cheap Trick live is a great experience!

The next year I saw them headlining at Big Mac Arena, the largest arena in Denver at the time. They kicked ass - all four very talented musicians. Their live sound was very true to their recorded sound, they did not disappoint and they are still going strong. The Flame is a great song, you should definitely react to that.

Jayvee, the version in this video is the live version from "Cheap Trick Live at Budokan". It is infinitely better than the studio version. I interviewed the guitar player, Rick Nielsen and I said listen, Budokan is a monster, and the live versions of these songs are at least as good as, if not way better, than the studio album versions. What gives, Rick Nielsen? And basically he said that the records were, to a degree, out of their hands, a young band with a major record deal. They didn't have much say about the producers, the mixes, etc. What I love about that is the fact that nobody could deny Cheap Trick's power as a live band, and "Live at Budokan" is their best-selling recording. It's worth mentioning that the band found some early success in Japan, with the sold-out shows and adoring throngs of fans, while they had yet to be tested in the US.
