Hunters have been extremely successful, for decades, wearing the big plaid checker jackets. Camo is more about big companies attracting consumers. Limited movement is vastly more important than any camo. I've shot plenty of deer wearing blue jeans.

@PA Outdoorsman prove they can. I ain't believing "scientists" special studies. Movement is key, LACK of movement. I've hunted in jeans. Killed deer in jeans. One 100% does not need fancy camo to hunt. Stealth is, and always will be, #1.

@@zzz7zzz9 I read someone else who came up with a nifty phrase. The best camo is remaining still. If a person has a limited budget and I would consider rifle and optics most important, and they have just about nothing left for clothing, then, for the first season, make do with brown or red warm ups. Granted, I have hunting clothes and I like the cargo pockets, etcetera. But you don't want to wear corduroy because it is too noisy. I watched a video of Tom River - Simple Living and he sat in a chair with a spotting scope and a rifle, where some dark pants and a red, white, and black plaid flannel shirt jacket. The deer could see something but they did not panic because he did not move. Basically, deer can see what we can see but it is more 2-D, less depth perception and orange looks like gray but blue is more noticable but not really neon, just more noticable. Then, one day, last season, a doe ran across the road in front of me... Late in the season, probably a second rut.

@@ronws2007 agree. The very last thing to be spending $$ on should be camo. Weapon, ammo, optics(scope, binos), boots, good knife, etc. so many more important things.

Deer hunting locally in Western Oklahoma, I got by with the cheap Walmart camo for decades. Only in extreme cases was anything else needed. Going into the Rockies for elk & mule deer however, is a completely different story. In big country, the weather can get very ugly, very quickly. Thats where planning and investment in quality gear makes ALL the difference

I’ve actually seen people get soft shell sets of various colors on sale and spray paint them like a rifle as their camo outer layer. 20 degrees is about as cold as it gets here so as long as they layer right they can keep it fairly lightweight. Wool socks are definitely game changers.

Some sound advise. But I disagree with part about it needing to be camo. I've hunted all my life without camo and done just fine. What's important is to break the human outline up. And one can do that with earth like colors, using different colors throughout the body.

So here are some thoughts. I layer as most people do. For over pants I use the real tree wind/waterproof . Under those when it's real cold I wear insulated blue Jean's from Eddy Bauer that I got at Goodwill for 5 bucks. Under that , thermal layer. Top same deal. Real Tree outer , fleece hoody , thermals. Total , my hunting gear cost less than $120. Never been cold and I have sat 5 - 6 hours at a time it sub 30s. Unless you are hunting the Northwest or Alaska there just isn't a need for 300 - 400 dollar Hunting Jackets or Pants.

Cheap camo cotton will work as an outer shell in dry conditions and is quiter than some synthetics. It is the synthetics layers you use underneath the cotton camo tha count. I like to match the camo to the terrain and a variety of cheap cotton camo is the answer. Spend your money on warmth and comfort part of your gear.

Good vid! I hunt in CO at 10am elevation in Oct-Nov. So snow, wind, rain or sun and 0-50 degrees. I can’t afford the big brands. I’ve been buying base layers at Walmart athletic aisles, real wool socks online, hiking brands for vest and soft shell on Poshmark, and a Cabela’s outer layer if needed when it gets nasty and I am sitting. In rifle season we have to wear blaze orange here, so I’ve lucked out on finding base and mis layers on Poshmark or discounted since no one buys orange. Camo is cool, but we have to wear orange over it somehow anyway. I think I got a outer Under Armour packable down filled shell for $35. Ha! Great vid! Pants I need to upgrade as I use Duluth Firehose now. They are great, but heavy. I’ll check out the Wally World ones you mention. Others have said Wranglers hiking jeans there too.

Will Mossy Oak DNA and Breakup Country work out West, including the desert southwest? It's what I've found a Walmart and outdoor retailer for a reasonable price. I've had good luck with the Scentblocker 60 cotton/4O Poly blend pants. 100% synthetic is too hot out here. The cotton/poly blend does fade, but in my opinion helps blend in better. Thanks for the practical and to the point videos!

The pattern will work fine. However, unless its early season i would not use anything with cotton in it. Synthetics and or wool would be better.

The stuff is severely overpriced. Mostly made of polyester and spandex just like the stuff from Walmart. Also likely made in the same sweat shops in China. Look it up. You were sold on the marketing and the "system". Literally still layering just like before. Traditional bow hunting podcast has a video on why buy hunting clothes from Walmart. It has very valid points. After some research you will understand that you are swept up in the marketing and then try to justify way overspending on the same materials you get from Walmart. Example; KUIU 93% polyester 7% spandex hoodie is $80. Gilden brand 93% polyester 7% spandex hoodie $12. Paying for the fancy name.
