1:01 "So it was all about your father, wasn't it? Well, I'm sure he's long gone now, and you certainly don't need his favor. And unlike the both of you, I am actually trying to be more supportive of my children. That's right, when we were married, I agreed to claim them as mine."

Not just his father, everyone else's parents as well, all the girls in their college, and even now Tom is still more popular than he is. Jimmy was sick of coming in second to him all the time so after they left College he became rich and successful, bought all the properties on Lake Winnetka with the exception of two, and had children with two different wives who left him before he found a third. He then imposed his overachiever beliefs on his children so he could make Tom feel jealous with how his kids seemed to have it all and could do it all. Jimmy Murtaugh has an inferiority complex the size of the Moon.

@@mattgerrish908Totally! The invitation to brunch wasn’t to be nice, he was so ready to rub his success in Tom’s face! Even at the clam bake when he was telling Tom what his kids were up to, that was basically him saying my kids are way better than yours.

Yeah, Tom had been the jealous one this entire time, but you realize that Jimmy was secretly first because he was jealous of Tom's popularity when they were in college and even now everyone still likes him more.

@@mattgerrish908yea honestly his wife demanding him to get over it was wrong. It’s not easy to just simply get over things but jimmy definitely should have treated his children way better!

Actually the kids were fine up until this point; this is the first time they ever stood up to Jimmy. He bought their obedience with their own charge accounts since he had piles of money from owning nearly all the properties on Lake Winnetka. They all consigned to live the way he chose for them even though they didn't want to because he threw a lot of money at them.
