We did all the research so you don't have to!
This is a family friendly toileting option while on the road or camping.
As always we encourage you to check out your local second hand market first for any camping items. Often, you can purchase something brand new for a fraction of the price.
It is light and convenient and best of all CHEAP!
Pop-up Pooper is no longer in production, however, we see them on marketplace in Australia ALL THE TIME, we got ours on marketplace for $15.
Also, there are many similar products in the market and on Marketplace or Gumtree. If we were to buy again these would be what we would go for

The Pop-Up Pooper has since gone out of production. We found ours on Facebook Marketplace and see them come up often. Alternatively, there are plenty of other lightweight options out there! Happy camping!

THANK YOU! Thank you so much for this video. You’re right, this is not talked about. We have a pop up pooper that my partner purchased in 2013 that has hardly been used. We’re now needing to use it and I was struggling to find options. So glad to find this know what we need to do.

I notice you have the elemental pop up pooper. Thank you for showing everyone how easy it is to use and compact. For those that can't get to a bunnings (my closest is over 100kms away) elemental also do a pack that includes liners ( although they are plastic and not cornstarch) + sachets of the 'poo powder' type product. Most good camping stores should stock them and from memory they were under 2 $20 for them combined. Great heads up on the Nilodour as well, is never thought of that. The other thing to note is that once your 'business' is encapsulated in the gel and inside a plastic type bag you can dispose of it in domestic waste like you would disposable nappies, totally legal and convenient. Keep posting and enjoy your trip.

This is the first most brilliant idea I've seen. Even more brilliant than clumping cat litter--I believe maybe the same substance but more concentrated. This requires less storage space.

Yay. I love the simplicity and practicality of your camping style. So many campers have so much stuff it's ridiculous. For toileting I use a similar system. I use compostabe bags with a little cat litter in it. The recycled paper pellet type cat litter. It absorbs everything and there are no spills.

Measure a length of pool noodle to fit the circumference of a sturdy bucket. Slit the noodle lengthwise. Line the bucket with the plastic bag, and slot the noodle onto the rim of the bucket. Cheap, comfortable camping toilet. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of cold fire ash over the contents, kills ALL odours instantly. Australians know how to make the best dunnies! Louise, Australia 🦘

I was researching the hanging shower curtain and found your video on that. I have a truck with a batwing on the passengers side and 200 watts of solar over the cab, I was going to build a shower room like you have, but I think I will just buy one. and the toilet was the next problem, I am going to follow your lead. Thank you for sharing.

You are absolutely right. Its waaaay better than just crapping on the ground and leaving everything there. I would probably bury it onsite if I'm really out in the sticks...or find a tree fork and some paper bark and use a shovel to bury it. But they were the ''olden days''.

I had a ton of leftover diapers after potty training my youngest son. Being that I can’t stand wasting anything I came up with a camping hack🏕 last year I just cut open a diaper and used the waterlocking granules from inside the diapers dumped in double lined bags the bottom of my camp toilet! Cheap compact and they never go bad!👍🏼

Thankyou, I'm searching for hiking camping suitable options that are affordable... I'm thinking adding activated charcoal to this maybe helpful as well. I have looked into "tofu" kitty litter... I've never used it though...i don't have a cat. It's basically an absorbent option made from biodegradable plant based waste .

I don’t know why they went out or business but so far they’ve been the smallest and sturdiest collapsible and portable toilet I’ve seen! Nothing in the states comes near (I’ve looked). Sodium polyacrylate is non-toxic and safe from any major risks. The data on its safety on environment is not adequate, however it is considered non-biodegradable and may cause salinization of soil when added in large quantities.

I don't see their answer. But, here in the US just dispose in trash as you would a dirty babies diaper. Also Horse bedding pellets are an easy way to control the waste.

I like your system but I have a question. Do you add water into the bag before you do #1 and #2? What is the purpose of adding water?
@alexolly

We just did water for this demonstration. The crystals are activated by liquid. So any moisture from your waste would activate the crystals. No water necessary :) let me know if you have any other questions!

Yeah that is gross. You can definitely put the toilet paper straight in. We linked what we use in the description. Essentially as long as it's biodegradable and doesn't have any scents or dyes. We switch between How We Roll and Wipe That bamboo toilet paper. It's great quality.

can you leave it for a few days or do you need to empty it each time? Would it work in a trailer?
@alexolly
@alexolly 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend leaving it for that long. Sometimes if more than one person needs to go we would use the same bag. But we wouldn't leave it out for more than a couple of hours. I'm not sure about it working in a trailer that's a decision you'd have to make for yourself. Cheers mate.

Just use a 5 gallon bucket with a pool floot on the rim. Put your bags in it. Get some cheaper biodegradable kitchen garbage bags.

Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately that wouldn't work for us as we wouldn't be able to fit a non collapsible bucket in our car. Everything has to pack down small to fit into the back of the patrol. That would work for people who have more space. Thanks for stopping by camper 👌

Hi Leonie, as we said in the video description the pop up pooper is no longer in production. We got ours on Facebook Marketplace for $15. Why go to all the trouble with the environmently friendly bag, if you are putting that plastic soup powder in there.. 😂 Just use kitty litter or wood pellets, or shavings, and then you don't need to add the scent either.. 😊
@alexolly
@alexolly 2 жыл бұрын
You fundamentally don't understand the product. It's not plastic, its a biodegradable salt. Kitty litter contains a very similar product, and contains artificial scent also. We travelled on this trip for 10 weeks, so carrying that much Kitty litter, pellets or shavings would be extremely impractical and expensive. We were in very remote areas, so we could bring 10 weeks worth of crystals and it wouldn't take up much space. Water storage crystals are much more compact, cheaper, more convenient and more environmentally friendly.
@carlosmanuelgonzalez310
@carlosmanuelgonzalez310 2 жыл бұрын
There's a more environmentally friendly solution. For people who go hiking, or cycling, or kayaking, etc. (1) You dig a hole in the ground, at least 30 centimeters deep and 50 meters away from any water body, like creeks, rivers, sea, etc. (2) You do your business #1 and #2 into the hole, you can only put toilet paper in there too, but tampons, diapers, etc do not go into the hole, it must go in a special bag for proper disposal later. Cover the hole with the same soil you removed. (3) mark the place with a wood skewer or a stick. Just replace the bucket for a gardening trowel. Nature will take care of the skewer, the paper and your natural disposals. The things that got bagged might be disposed when you get home, or in any toilet facility at a gas station or restaurant.
