Just made 5 of these and your instructions were great and these fluid beds work out perfectly. The whisper 60 paired with those plastic valves really help fine tune the powder movement in the cup. With the "buy in costs" for material you can build 20 of these. I used a miter saw to get smooth cuts on the PVC. Thanks for the video!

Yah. the views on this give the story. easiest way to make a fluid bed on youtube. I watched the video took notes, went to home depot/amazon, bought the parts and followed the video. I was powder coating beautifully after my first run. love it. good work.

I made a dozen of these fluid beds. I made labels and applied them. I also wanted to tell you about the Spigot plug that I used on tod. The spigot plug is loose fitting on the 2" tubing. I found that i could take a 3 oz plastic SOLO drinking cup and put over the spigot plug and push it down and then cut the excess plastic off, that it fits the loose gap on the tube. the rolled drinking edge leaves a 1/16 " gap. Now you don't have to worry about your paint spilling out.

Great video! I made 7 of these similar to yours but used 1 1/2" PVC and made the top pipe 4" long since I'm dipping GIANT 4 ounce jig heads in them that have a BIG 8/0 hook size. Lowes Charlotte test caps were crap because they were so loose they wouldn't stay in the pipe if you tilted it over and they were more than twice the cost of the Oatey brand ones that fit much better and were deeper I got from Home Depot. Of course with inflation they way it is now the cost has significantly gone up :(

Nice video. Do have the link for the air valves? Also have you tried to make any out of 1.5" PVC? That way it would use even less paint? Also if you cut the 2 1/4 longer would that help reduce some mess and bubbling out paint?
@justtinkering60542 жыл бұрын
I didn’t try any smaller diameter PVC. I was afraid it would be too narrow to fit large jigs comfortably. You could try longer pieces of PVC. I never saw any need to. Depending on what you’re doing though, you might want longer PVC.

A couple of questions: 1) How about coffee filters instead of paper? 2) If you have to remove the bottom part to change the paper/filter, isn't it difficult to re-align the holes that the air valve goes into? I have everything ready and plan on making them in the next day or two. Just working some questions out in my mind.
@justtinkering6054Күн бұрын
It's been a while but I believe I tried coffee filters and didn't like how it worked. I know I tried a couple different types of paper. As for realigning the holes, yes it will be difficult. You may try to purposely misalign the holes completely so that the hole would be sealed. Then drill a new hole. I have not had to change the paper in any of my cups. They don't get much use, but I haven't had any problems when I do use them either. I hope this helps.

How do you keep the paint out of your jig eyes especially when powder coating very small jigs like 1/32 oz. ? I appreciate your video and I made some fluid beds thanks to you.
@justtinkering6054 Жыл бұрын
If you can angle your jigs so that the eyes don’t get in the powder, that is best. If you have to dip the eye, make sure the jig is good and hot. The powder melts a little thinner on a hot jig. Sometimes tapping your pliers/hemostats on the side of the cup, after you dip it, can help to knock off the extra.

You need to cure your parts in an oven to get the most durable finish. If you don’t cure them, the paint will be brittle. You should be able to drop your jigs on concrete, with some force, and they shouldn’t chip. I cure mine at about 350 F for about 25 minutes. I use a toaster oven. Don’t trust the built in thermostat. Get a food thermometer to check the oven’s actual temp.
