Here's a demo of a highly modified Epiphone SG Pierced with an Artec QDD onboard Distortion Driver! 😄🎸
The Epiphone SG Pierced is definitely an odd ball guitar 🥴 so I figured it needs an odd ball wiring. After the previous video I wasn't completely satisfied; as much as I love a weird guitar I do like them to be useful and functional! So I decided to get it back on the bench for Round 2 🥊
With it's distressed look, this guitar gives me a heavy Punk/Rock/Metal vibe so I thought the Artec QDD Distortion Driver would be a great fit for it 😄
I've been aware of the QDD for some years and it's a modification that has stuck in my mind 🎸 4 distortions? On your guitar? For less than £20?! 🤯

Nicely done review! Does this need a stereo output jack so the battery disconnects with removal of the guitar cord?

Thank you kindly! 😄 that is correct 🙂 the wiring is fairly straight forward (input, output, battery connection and ground) and there are some helpful wiring diagrams available online A very fun mod to do 😎🎸 let me know if you try it out! All the best my friend Danny

Thank you for the kind words, glad you enjoyed the video! 😄 the trim pot on this was dialed fairly low, below half. I did experiment with cranking up the trim pot and the difference was soo loud compared to the bypass 😬😂 so its got plenty of juice to it if you need it! 🎸

Hey! Since posting this video I have also struggled to find any in stock anywhere! 😅 in the past I've gotten them from eBay, there's been a couple of different sellers but none seem to have them available at present. I'm hoping it's perhaps a supply issue with Artec, I will be devastated if they've stopped producing them 😭😂 If I do have any luck sourcing them I'll drop the link here! 🎸 All the best bud Danny

I dig the built in distortion unit I put a cs gitty psycho box that has like four or five different gain settings it's probably the same thing as yours my only problem is that it hums alot and picks up radio signals I dunno if it's just not grounded right or needs shielding.its also in a crappy project Les Paul I call my Wes Paul that has one mini humbucker and the psycho box and a volume knob and I'm not sure if it drains the battery when it's unplugged and on clean though it seems to

Hey Wes! I hadn't seen the Psycho Box before, very cool! 😄 it does appear to b the same unit (or very similar at least!) Does the guitar have a stereo jack? Having a stereo jack means that the circuit is only switched on when a guitar lead is plugged in, so that should stop the battery draining 🙂 It may also help with the hum/grounding issues. If you search 'Artec QDD Wiring Diagram' there's some useful diagrams for wiring them up for different guitar configurations. @@WeirdandWired right on thanks for the heads up I figured they would include a stereo jack with it but I guess not I think I can probably get one out of one of my dead pedals and it probably would be higher quality than the super cheap one that came with the kit it was originally supposed to be installed into a cigar box but I figured why not skip that part.the whole guitar needs alot of love to be very playable it seems the wood has swollen since it was apart for so long so it was pretty hard to get everything to fit correctly and I'm sure if the ground is doing it's job

Hey man. I know this is a long shot but I'm trying to wire a bcu which has a similar thing going as far as how you wire it to one volume pot and I can't get it to work. I get a lot of noise like nothing is grounded how do I fix that?

Hey! I've had a look at the BCU and it's a fairly similar process to this 🙂 If everything is wired as it should be it might be worth trying another BCU component if you can to see if it is faulty - I've had a faulty QDD in the past, I did so much troubleshooting with it and I was relieved when the new one worked first time 😂 there's not an awful lot that can go wrong with the wiring Let me know how you get on! 🎸🤞 All the best bud, Danny

Do you have to use a stereo jack or can you use a normal mono jack?

You'll need a stereo jack as it requires a 9V battery - the negative wire from the battery connector uses the extra terminal on the stereo jack 🙂 stops the battery from being drained when it's not got a lead plugged in!
